WFP resumes activities in Amadi State: official

The governor of Amadi state said the World Food Program and two other
organizations have resumed their operations in Mvolo, Bahr Girinti and
Nyere areas after they suspended their operations last week following
the killing of a humanitarian aid worker.

Governor Joseph Ngere Pachiko told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that the
suspension was part of security measures by the state government after
a driver for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was
killed.

He claimed that the security situation in the area has been restored
and many aid agencies have resumed their operations. He also noted
that some parts of the state still remain unsafe for aid agencies to
operate.

On Tuesday, the ICRC announced that it will only resume activities in
Amadi state when the state government and armed groups assure them of
their safety.
