Church urges state government to open humanitarian corridor in Wau
The Catholic Diocese of Wau has called on the state government to open
the humanitarian corridor for the war-affected people of Besselia and
Baggari Counties in Wau State.
Fr. Moses Peter Joseph told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the Church
and other humanitarian partners are ready to aid assistance to the
affected communities in the two areas but due to insecurity along the
road, they are not able to provide aid assistance.
The religious leader suggested that the government should deploy
forces along the way to provide security for any humanitarian convoy
to reach the people.
Thousands of civilians are in dire humanitarian situation in both
Besselia and Baggari Counties which have been a battlefield between
government and opposition forces. Dozens have reportedly died of
hunger.
