Kenyan Presidential candidate Raila Odinga says if elected in the
August 8 poll, he will appeal to South Sudan government for re-trial
of the five Kenyan nationals serving life imprisonment in Juba prison.

The five Kenyans, plus 11 other South Sudanese were jailed for life
last year for defrauding President Kiir’s office 14 million dollars
and 30 million pounds.

The Kenyan nationals include: Anthony Keya, Boniface Muriuki, Ravi
Ghaghda, and Anthony Mwadime.

Mr, Odinga said if elected, he would make sure that those Kenyans are
given a fair trial.

“We would really plead that those Kenyans are given a fair trial by
the international standards so that those who are to be found be
culpable or guilty will face the law,” Mr Odinga said.

Mr. Odinga was responding to a question during the presidential debate
Monday evening.

He was asked on what he would do to make sure Kenyans imprisoned in
South Sudan are given a fair trial.

This is the first time South Sudan has featured in the Kenyan election
pledges by the Kenyan leaders.

Odinga is the leader of the opposition coalition, National Super
Alliance or NASA.

He is the main challenger to the leader of ruling party, also
incumbent president, Uhuru Kenyatta, in the August poll.
