Youth And Politics In South Sudan

"We need South Sudan where young people are allowed to constructively
express their voices freely without fear and favour."
21 June 2017
Dear Editor,
I would like to request for the publication of the attached piece.
Thanks so much for making South Sudan a great country.
Thudan James Gai

I was watching on ‘Youth and Politics’ this morning and I felt that it
would have been South Sudan being discussed by young people on SSBC.

Kenyan young people are given a free platform to discuss political and
socio-economic issues facing young people in Kenya. I was thrilled to
see that young people could present their political views without fear
of being pinched or detained.
The opposition youth interestingly challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta
with a lot of evidence-based presentations. I thought the debate would
end with fistfights but ended with cheers and hugs.
Can those with dissent voices challenge the SPLM and the chairman on
SSBC here in Juba in the same way President Uhuru Kenyatta was tensely
being challenged in Kenya without being roasted or branded rebels? If
that happens, we will have a great South Sudan.
We need South Sudan where young people are allowed to constructively
express their voices freely without fear and favour.
We need South Sudan where young people are given equal opportunities
for education, employment, training in various fields of work,
business opportunities, freedom to advance their political ambitions
and freedom to visit the state-house to present their strategic
agendas to the head of the state and government.
We need South Sudan where Kenyi, Gatluak, Deng, Nyaruot, Poni and
Achol are shortlisted for an interview and compete as brothers and
sisters without tribal favour.
We need South Sudan where I am not identified as “Jenge” and Pitia as
Nyamnyam, where we can be identified as South Sudanese nationals with
equal birthrights and privileges.
We need South Sudan where justice is equally served.
We need South Sudan where I can be employed and work in Yambio,
Kajo-Keji, Lainya, Terekeka, Mapel, Turalei without being looked at
with contempt.
We need South Sudan where South Sudanese can own land and build and
stay anywhere in South Sudan without being badmouthed and targeted on
ethnic basis.
We do not need South Sudan where people wear false smiles and
slaughter themselves mercilessly when a small fight occurs.
This piece is from a concerned South Sudanese national, who can
possibly be reached at wanga...@gmail.com
