Female activist urges deployment of regional force to Wau town
A female activist in Wau has called on the United Nations Mission in
South Sudan (UNMISS) to consider the deployment of the Regional
Protection Force (RPF) to Wau given the security situation there.
Linda Ferdinand, the Executive Director of Women Training and
Promotion (WOTAP) in Wau said this during a meeting of civil society
representatives with the head of UNMISS David Shearer on Tuesday in
Wau.
Linda who admitted that the security situation had improved, insisted
that there were other issues that needed the intervention of the
UNMISS, including the humanitarian access for civilians trapped in
rebel-controlled areas.
For his part, Shearer clarified that the RPF’s mandate and areas of
deployment were clearly indicated in the agreement with the
government.
But he said UNMISS will work in collaboration with the state
authorities to improve the security situation in Wau and allow
civilians to go back to their homes.
WOTAP is a female initiated organization working in the field of
children and women development.
