Observer: Sentry report aims to push for peace implementation

ADDIS ABABA (16 Sep.)

Mohammed Tawakul, an expert on the affairs in the Horn of Africa said that the U.S.-based watchdog group's investigation into corruption by South Sudan’s top leaders at this particular time aims at pushing for peace implementation.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Tawakul said that public corruption among South Sudanese leaders is not something new."It is difficult to limit the corruption accusations to the two leaders because the corruption is everywhere in South Sudan. I think the release of the report at this time is to pressure them,”said Tawakul.

The Sentry organization, an initiative led by actor George Clooney and activist John Pendergast, last week released a high profile report detailing a network of supposed corruption by South Sudan leaders. The report says that corruption drives continued war in the world’s youngest nation.
