Former governor of South Sudan’s Gogrial state, Gregory Deng Kuac, has
welcomed the presidential decree removing him from office, saying the
president has the powers to fire and hire governors and ministers as
he pleases.
Last week, President Salva Kiir issued decrees sacking governors of
Gogrial and Fangak states. Gregory Deng of Gogrial was replaced by
Victor Atem Atem, a former education minister.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, former governor Deng thanked
the president for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of
Gogrial.
Deng said the changes are just part of routine changes to enhance
service delivery. “My removal from the office is a normal change and
this happens in any system world over,” he said.
“The cadres of any system are deployed and redeployed when the
situation requires. Our people also need to know nothing is wrong with
these changes. It is a constitutional right and prerogative of the
president to appoint and redeployment state governors, national
ministers and other officials because there are powers given to him by
the people of this country through the constitution,” Deng added.
