About 10 people have died of thirst after being displaced from their
villages in Panyikang County in Fashoda State due to clashes between
government troops and rebel fighters on Sunday, a senior opposition
official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Morris Orach, the Minister of
Information in the rebel-controlled area in Fashoda, said the 10
people died earlier this week.
He pointed out that hundreds of civilians fled their villages in
Panyikang County following fighting between government forces and
rebel fighters on Sunday.
“Yes, about 10 people have died of thirst in Fashoda after fleeing
their areas in Panyikang and they are now still in the bush. I am
afraid they might be facing a very dire humanitarian situation,”said
Orach.
He called upon humanitarian organizations to help the
conflict-displaced people in Fashoda.
