WAU, 27 April 2017 [Gurtong] -The theatre has been established to deal
with surgical operation cases in Greater Bahr el Ghazal region,
according to ICRC’s Wau head of sub delegation, Fiorella Erni.
“This even marks the collaboration and the partnership between the Wau
teaching hospital and ICRC in Wau to be able to provide quality
surgical care for all people of Greater Bahr el Ghazal,” Fiorella said
during the opening ceremony.
“The ICRC has already been supporting Wau teaching hospital during the
21 years civil war with medical supplies and this collaboration has
been there until today, when finally we managed to bring a surgical
team here to Wau teaching hospital,” she said.
Fiorella said the International Committee for Red Cross is happy to
see that its surgical operation team arrived in Wau following the
completion of the rehabilitation of the theatre which started in
January last year.
“We are proud of this even and we are proud to celebrate it with you,
the ICRC is committed to bring Wau teaching hospital back to be one of
the best hospitals in the region. Since the arrival of our surgical
team and at the beginning of the month, we already managed to carry
out 43 surgeries to both civilians and military personnel,” she said.
On his part, Wau State Governor, Andrea Mayar Acho appreciated the
work of ICRC in Wau town during the recent crisis.
“My thanks goes to the people of Red Cross because they are the very
people who struggled during the crisis to put the hospital back to its
normalcy. Wau witnessed a lot of crisis from crisis to another crisis
and thank God, we recovered.” said the Governor.
