Hello All,

My team is having a hard time coaching 'Fossils'. Other than the Starter pack and Science kit, any external resources / information materials/ pointers anyone can provide, that might have helped you,  to help us move forward?

You could start by exploring these sites?  My fossil supplier is out of business now, so no actual specimens, but these are decent and free.

Practice with flash cards for quick identification. preparation of binders in addition to field guide for quick reference helps.

Thanks

I had my student teams create their own reference notebook. They had to research each fossil listed and copy/paste info they thought was important for the specimen and then search for pictures as well. Once they created the pages, I would print them and they would organize the notebook to help them study and use it as a reference. In the past we could have a refence notebook.

Honestly, having specimens may be nice, but not necessary and at times can be a distraction.
Researching each specimen on the list and assembling their binder with those notes and pictures, along with notes on each of the topic items on the rule sheet have been the most helpful. Most all tests only have pics of the specimens anyways so it's good for the kids to see the breadth of not just size, but condition and other variations of a particular species.
You're never going to accumulate enough of the real ones and if they mainly use what you can acquire, it'll be pretty limiting as fossil quality, size, shape, color, etc... vary widely even for the exact species.
