Since it's Not really any version Koas and differnt name, is it close enough now for Spa to not care if it really is a Vintage design of the era, or have the rules now been so widened, anything kinda close is good enough ?

It’s an Ultra Sport copy.
It looks much less modern than the later 1970 pattern designs, but not sure when the ultra sport was designed. Its design appears to be in line with the era of the Kaos, but that’s just by looking at it.

August, 1989 RCM. The 8th paragraph in the article on link below explains about its heritage.

In case anyone’s interested, all of the photos used in the Motion RC ads are of an Ultra Sport built by SPA Life member Bob Moulder from New York.

Ok, so then it's Not really the Arf being sold. I couldn't tell what it was based on blurry pic of the subject. The plane in bones was obviously an Ultra Sport. But if in fact this is what it Really is, that's going to be "Technically" Spa legal? Wow.

The main photos of the Nexa Taipan were 'borrowed' from the build thread that I did for the Balsaworkbench short kit. The build thread can be found here: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?4288709-Ultra-Sport-60-from-Balsa-Workbench-short-kit

If it will get one or two more entrants at any contest, I say let them fly.

I agree with Howard 100%. We need more participants.

Legality – In case you’ve forgotten the recent changes made by the SPA Board of Directors to the definition of “legal aircraft”, here’s an excerpt from the 2025-2026 SPA Competition Guide, Section 1, Pg 3.

[QUOTE]

AIRCRAFT: Any model which meets the SPA aircraft requirements below is eligible.

1) Any pattern aircraft designed and flown prior to January 1, 1992 is permitted.

2) Any design that meets SPA engine/motor/power/prop specifications is permitted, although the use of period correct pattern designs is still encouraged.

3) Any ARF that is patterned after a period correct design or that is similar to planes from that era is permitted.

4) The use of retractable landing gear is allowed.

5) Muffled tuned pipes are allowed at the discretion of the CD.

The first time I met Ken Blackwell, he was flying on of these in what was then AMA Novice at Gadsden, Alabama. That would have been, I think the summer of 1991. Phil Spelt was there with wife and daughter, too. That it was available at the time should make it legal.

Always good to have another pattern-style ARF. This one looks interesting. Perhaps it can attract some new participants.
