Does anyone have any idea what the big and little circles are for?    Some sort of game?  Dance?

The group will be transitioning between big circle and small circles (circles of 4) during their routine.  The drawing of the circles simply makes it easier/smoother for the dancers to perform these transitions given their fairly large number combined with a relatively small dance space.  This pattern is common in the "country style" of square dance (as opposed to western style done mainly in squares).

This brings back many fond memories of some huge dances around Maggie Valley!
