I just took a look at the new IC-905 video. And the pricing has been announced as well, $3500 for the base unit.  Pretty steep.  Anyone care to give their thoughts on the radio? Does anyone plan on getting one?

Hello all,

Long time lurker here, callsign W6OHM. I was a member of SDMG back in the late 1990s/early 2000s and participated in the 10GHz and up contest a couple times under my original assigned callsign KF6PBP (a real tongue twister of a call).

I have not been active on the microwave bands in many years, having given my Qualcomm 10GHz rig away long ago, but I have been involved in RF professionally in various ways for many years and I still have an interest in microwaves.

That price for the IC-905 is quite a lot higher than I expected. Does that mean that the rooftop 10GHz unit is an optional upgrade at additional cost? Yikes!

Yes, HRO is quoting $999.95 for the 10 GHz transverter, $1099.95 for the 10 GHz dish, and $349.95 each for the 2.4 GHZ, 5.6 GHz, and 10 GHz colinear antennas.  DX Engineering about the same.  I've been watching the discussions on several of the microwave groups.  A lot of the more experienced microwavers are sticking to their transverters, but there are also a fair number who can't wait to part with their money.  Several have mentioned it might be a nice club project to put one on a mountaintop with remote control.  Might be a nice rig for rovers, too.  Definitely not in my budget, I'll just keep adding bands one at a time as the budget allows and scrounged parts fall into my lap.

Jim,

Thanks for the info! Not cheap but I guess you’re paying for a setup that works out of the box..
