Team!

Sorry for the double email, but I wanted this info to be searchable with its own subject line.

CAN Tournament Planning is upon us! (I know--already?)

Date(s): August 10-11, 17
Location: Goddard Softball Complex, Greenbelt, MD
Time: All Day. We won't know our game times for a while, but games start as early as 8:00 a.m. on all days. Last games are usually around 5:00.

Game Set-Up: The first weekend is pool play. We'll play three games over those two days. The second weekend is the single-elimination tournament for those who did well on weekend 1. Expect to be at both!

Non-Game Set-Up: Think of it like a weekend-long tailgate with 55 teams worth of softball players. It's a 5-field complex. Everyone sets up tents and chairs. There's a beer/seltzer truck, 2 catered meals, and buckets of water and gatorade everywhere. Lots of games (softball and others) and opportunities to hang out.

Saturday evening the 10th is our PC Softball Banquet and Awards Night at a dining establishment in Greenbelt followed by a trip to one of Greenbelt's finest bars, Willy K's with the rest of CAN. Many folks elect to stay the night at the scenic Holiday Inn in Greenbelt, in which Willy K's is located. If you would like to book a room, do so soon via this link, which will get you the CAN group rate of $109 for the night. (You can of course elect to come up each day separately, just know that parking is a pain.) We will have carpool options for those who need them.

You must have played in at least 4 regular-season games to be eligible to play in the Tournament.

More to come as it all gets closer, but that's the summary. Take it from us, you want to be there. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Love,
Paddy & E-A

Talked to a few of you tonight about the CAN hotel. Bumping this email back to the top of your inbox; EA and Patty excellently and thoroughly laid out all the relevant info below. Book your room ASAP!

Thanks for the bump, JR!

We'll be doing a charity collection of sports equipment (new and gently used) at tournament, so if you have things to donate, start saving them now.

Also, CAN is looking for volunteers for the Tournament Committee, either in planning or just the execution of the weekend. Payment is in the form of $0 tournament fees (~$65 savings) and you get a say in how the weekends run! Please let me and Patrick know if you are interested. If you'd like more info about what that entails, ask me or Allison or Ben or Burke.

Team!

Great fight out there yesterday. The final score maybe didn't go our way, but we've got one more (date TBD) against Washington to close out the regular season with a W!

Then, you know what that means, it's Tournament Time! This email has a million things in it. I've tried to be super clear about what information requires a response and by when. There is very little flexibility in these deadlines, so please respond as soon as you can. Please let me know if you have any questions at all!

Basics:
Date(s): August 10-11, 17
Location: Goddard Softball Complex, Greenbelt, MD
Time: All Day. We won't know our game times until 3 August, but games start as early as 8:00 a.m. on all days. Last games are usually around 5:00.
Cost: $80 per player, includes lunch and dinner each day as well as all the beer/seltzer/gatorade/water you can drink

Our Softball Banquet is at 8:00 on Saturday, 10 August, at a TBD location in Greenbelt, MD. Stay tuned for a ballot to vote on this season's awards! After our banquet, we'll head to Willy K's, Greenbelt's finest establishment, to meet up with the rest of CAN. Pro tip: Bring cash.

To do #1: We need a volunteer to attend the tournament meeting and selection show on 3 August at 7:00 p.m. Both Paddy and I are out of town. You just have to go, say you're from Providence, and pick up the parking passes. You should be out by 8:30. Please let us know ASAP if you can help us out there.

Eligibility: You must have played 4 regular-season games to be eligible to play in the tournament. You all know this. Everyone who is planning to be there has 4 games, minimum. Great work, team. If you do not have 4 games and want to join us, still, PLEASE DO! You can come as our guest for both days ($65) or one day ($50).

To do #2: Here's what we think we know about our tournament roster. Please correct us ASAP if this is not right, no later than Wednesday, 24 July. We cannot make roster changes after this date.

IN: Alexa, Allin, Allison, Alvaro, Ben, Burke, Emily-Anne, Greg, JR, Julia, Matty, Meredith, Patrick, Pete, RePete, Tim
OUT: Aidan, Tess :(
OUT 2nd Weekend: Allison, Greg :(

UNKNOWN: Mark, Ryan

GUESTS: Ken, Peter, please let me know if you want to have guest status! We'd love to have you.

To do #3: If you are bringing a guest with you, they also must be registered. This includes children. Guests are $65 for both days, $50 for one day, and children older than 2 $20. Children under 2 are $0. Email us full names and guest status no later than Wednesday, 24 July

To do #4: Pay me @e-apatt or emily.a...@gmail.com or in cash for your tournament registration, including any guests. Payments are due to me by Tuesday, 30 July

To do #5: As I mentioned, lunch and dinner are included each day. CAN offers standard, gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options. If you want something other than standard, please let me know by Tuesday, 24 July.

Logistics notes: Many of us are staying at the Holiday Inn in Greenbelt, if you'd like to and you haven't got your hotel room yet, you can do so here. We usually meet at the hotel parking lot to carpool to the fields anyway because we will have a limited number of parking passes. If you need a ride to Greenbelt, we'll send around an email the week before the tournament to coordinate rides. It's also a short Uber from the Greenbelt metro station should it come to that. This goes without saying, but we have an absolute zero tolerance policy for driving while not sober, so think about that as you plan your days. If you don't want to stay overnight in Greenbelt, you can certainly come and go each day, but we can't guarantee a parking pass for everyone who wants to do that.

To bring:
  • Softball gear
  • Tent/chair/blanket
  • Speaker/cards/snacks/lawn games
  • No pitchers allowed, but you can bring your own beverages if you want to
  • Charity donations of gently used sports equipment
  • Sunscreen
We'll all take a volunteer shift at some point during the tournament. This might mean scorekeeping or refilling water buckets or trash duty. We'll assign them, and if you need to swap, it's up to you to find someone to swap with.

Misc:
  • If you'd like to help out with the tournament committee setting things up on Friday and Saturday, please let me know. It's really helpful for CAN karma. I'll probably go up Friday.
  • I'm still working on rescheduling with UW. Stay tuned!
  • If you want a jersey, please respond to Paddy ASAP

I think that's everything for now, team. Please please let us know if you have any questions.

Love you bunches,
Paddy & E-A

Hi all,

I still have the tent from last year. Happy to meet up with someone before the tenth to hand it off for the tournament.

Go Friars!

I'm so exciiiiiited! Guys, seriously. I missed this last year.

I am willing to volunteer my services and be the DD from the fields to the Holiday Inn on Saturday. Turns out, I can't drink all day like I used to (mom life??) so I'll sip a couple BLs and call it a day early enough to drive back. I might have a change of heart once I get to Willy K's though... Caveat: I won't have my car. Tim needs it to tote around Calvin that weekend. If someone trusts me enough, I can drive their car. LMK!

Thanks, Maura!

Team, can someone coordinate with Maura to get the tent and bring it up to Goddard?

FYI - I won’t have room in my car for the tent.  I have the softball gear and stroller, etc.

I got it.  Maura and I live fairly close.  I can likely get it to the Holiday Inn, unless I need to drive 3 people.

I do not feel appropriate taking a Providence tent afterwards, though.

Usually, the week before, E-A or whomever is the coach, organizes a carpool sheet based on who has cars and geographic proximity.  So you will be covered!

Team!

Reminder that tournament rosters  close today. All guests and food preferences should be in today. (You can add guests up to day of,  but there will be no parking permits allocated for them.)

(We'll stop Spamming everyone and switch to a new email thread once I have the roster confirmed, I promise!)

Payments are due by Tuesday the 30th to me. If you have been branded with a Scarlet $ and are not allowed to make electronic payments, I'll take cash at tournament.

Love,
Paddy & E-A

Thanks Pete, I’ll text you and can drop it off. It is just a black tent, does anyone know whose it is?

It’s the Team’s. The alumni club bought it back when we had our own bank account
