In the quietest way possible, the City of Portland is currently soliciting public input (SEE BELOW FOR LINK) regarding its historic preservation planning including, supposedly evaluating its impact on equity, diversity and other important benchmarks like housing affordability.

Historic preservation (a/k/a "character retention") is a good thing used well but basically wildfire for gentrification when used badly and has big implications for a healthy urban bike/ped agenda.

I urge everyone to fill out the survey so that the results are not just from affluent homeowners who were lucky enough to either buy into expensive historic districts recently or who were lucky enough to buy into such places decades ago when there was much less interest in them.

Quick Survey: Historic Preservation Impact Study
Please share your perspective! In an effort to better understand our residents' views relating to historic preservation, our Planning & Urban Development Department worked with consultant, PlaceEconomics, to create this 5 minute, confidential survey. Your input will be invaluable to the process. The survey will be available July 1 through July 15. Take the survey here.

Another annoying set of survey questions
