MaineDOT crash data map

Hi everyone,

Per the discussion about crashes on Brighton Avenue near Sagamore Village, I wanted to make sure everyone knows about this crash data tool from Maine DOT:

Some caveats apply here – it only appears to count crashes where police were called, which probably under-counts the total number of crashes. Still, it's a useful estimate.

Here are the clusters of violent, injury-causing crashes on Brighton Avenue in 2018 and 2019 (there are many, many more crashes that allegedly involved property damage only). Definitely a significant increase in the number of people getting hurt in the 4-lane section west of Dennett St.

Hi Christian,

Thank you so much for sharing that link. I've used it before, but couldn't find a specific accident I was looking for: a crash that destroyed the bus shelter in front of the Asian Bistro a few years ago. I think that would have qualified as an "off road" but maybe it is in there as property damage. 

Another omission is a fatal accident (which was later determined a suicide) on the Riverside/Brighton intersection on 2018. Makes me think the map is unreliable.

Anyways, very useful tool!
