We've added some new features to our transit tracker web app

After some changes we have:

  • Faster responsiveness (<6 second) on stop time predictions and bus positions
  • Substantial performance increase on the map
  • Faster page load times
  • Buses departed within the last 10 minutes will now be visible so you know if you missed a bus that has come early
  • Buses that have been cancelled will now show up as cancelled instead of disappearing
  • You can now see 20 arrivals into the future for all stops
  • You will now always see the scheduled arrival time, the predicted arrival time, and how many minutes away nearby buses are. This should hopefully be a little clearer.
  • South Portland routes have been added. This one is more thanks to GPMetro than us. Huge thank you to them for their ongoing efforts on consolidating services.

Let us know what you think! A few things we may want to add:

  • Biddeford Saco Old Orchard Beach routes (We need someone from their service to give us access here. We have been trying to get in touch)
  • Indicating how many stops away nearby buses are. This could help give a better sense than predicted arrival times which can vary a bit depending on traffic or spending a long time at a stop.

Thanks Todd! The showing of recently departed buses and cancelled buses is HUGE. I regularly use the Transit app and it's too clunky to check if a bus has already departed. Looking forward to testing this out in the field, and happy to help with any efforts to flyer/sticker/get the word out about the site.

Great updates, Todd - it's my go to app as well. I will see if I can get a contact at BSOOB.
