Greg, Michael, et al,
I found myself riding along the newly paved and newly striped bike lane on Park Ave today. It was very nice and smooth until I realized that I wasn’t actually in the bike lane but rather the door-zone buffer.
Considering the poor condition of the actual bike lanes (you might recall the PBPAC report) I suspect that I will not be the last person to make this mistake. The problem is, of course, that the door-zone is a dangerous place to be. I’m afraid that current conditions will lead to injury.
Thank you,
Zack

Maybe they're going to paint the bike section green soon, and just haven't gotten to it yet? I hope?

Maybe. But the condition is pretty poor.

The right way to stripe a buffer zone would be with occasional hases through it, like the no parking zone in the picture has.  Easy enough to add here, and possibly planned as a later step?  It does seem necisary to denote that no one should park or ride in the buffer zone.

In America, bike lanes are only painted green in hazardous areas, like in an intersection, they aren't colored throughout.  Not sure why green means hazardous, bit that is what it's used for here.

I think buffer striping AND green lane paint would be good.

Good Morning Zack,

I checked in with the City Engineer and our Inspections Coordinator about this topic.  The marking work is not yet complete and will be finished in the coming weeks. The subcontractor tasked with this effort experienced rainouts during their scheduled shifts.

Thanks,
Jeremiah
