Here’s a case where it seems likely that the motorist will face prosecution

Portland Police Investigate Motor Vehicle Crash

Involving Juvenile Bicyclist

PORTLAND, Maine On Monday, June 29, 2026, at 8:49 p.m., Portland Police responded to the intersection of Deering Avenue and Brighton Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist.

The preliminary investigation determined that an 11-year-old boy was riding his bicycle across Brighton Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle operated by 19-year-old Beder Hussein of Portland. The juvenile sustained a minor leg injury and was treated at the scene.

The investigation determined that Hussein had a green traffic signal at the time of the crash. Witnesses reported that he was talking on a handheld cell phone immediately before the collision, which Hussein later confirmed. Officers also determined that Hussein’s driver’s license was suspended.

Hussein was charged with Operating After Suspension and Driving to Endanger.

Investigators are urging anyone who has any information that might assist in this or any other case to call them at 207-874-8575. You may also text the keyword PPDME and your message to 847411.

I am going to have to say both were at fault, assuming the boy was riding against the green.

Beder Hussein apparently does not understand about the need to be properly licensed to drive a car.

Injury was minor.  This would not have been reported but for the heighten coverage of motor vehicle / pedestrian collusion.

Note, the police did not issue press releases on the two other motor vehicle / pedestrian collisions that did not result in major injury or death.  I beleive there have been several other incidents that have not been reported by PPD press release or in the news.

Also note that the PPH has been absent in this news.

They have become a newsmagazine that only reports on picture news.
