I have loaded therm 7.4.4 on my computer running windows 7.  The program will start.  I am trying to import a dxf file to use as an underlayment. I have reviewed the file in a dfx viewer and the linework i have drawn appears.  When I import it into therm as an underlayment I se a blank page.  How can I make the file appear?

Hi!
Which version of dxf did you save your underlay file in?
You should save that in the oldest version AutoCAD R12/LT12 DXF.

My cad software will not export as far back as R12.  The oldest format for export is Autocad 2004.  Perhaps there is the issue.  I have tried the Autocad 2004 but got a screen with a sun array emitting from the 0,0 point

Peter

I suspect that is the issue.

We need to update the file formats that THERM can deal with, but we haven't gotten to it. I will put that on our list of things to update, but we won't be able to fix it right away.

Can you email me the DWG/DXF files that you can export from your CAD system?

I'm not a CAD expert but I might be able to find someone here who could put it into the older format.

Of course that doesn't solve the problem for you for future work, but hopefully we can get our DXF reader upgraded soon.

Sorry for this.

Robin

I have the same issue.  I was getting some success with the DXFOUT command, it was the only one that would allow me to open, but my detail was being doubled.  I checked over the drawing again to confirm that there was only one image and tried again, and again therm added one detail on the upper left and a directed detail way below; I had to set zoon to 2% to see them both.
I purged the original drawing and reran DXFout, but now nothing shows up.  I have tried going to the original dwg and saving to R12 dxf and I get an error.
I feel like using a DXF underlay should be considered the bread and butter of this software considering the alternative is hand drawing which is not reasonable.

I've been at this for hours with no success.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?  This should be a very simple process.

Darryl,

I'm looking at your dxf files and the underlay they are generating in Therm (7.8.71). I am seeing duplicate copies of underlay lines in R1 and R2 like you are describing. And some objects aren't in the right relative locations to others. But R3 and R4 are looking good to me. Those dxf files are importing into Therm in the way I would expect. Only 1 copy of all the geometry and everything is in the right place. Are R3 and R4 not working how you want them to on your end?

Some tips for dxf--> therm imports:
In CAD, after you clean up the assembly drawing you are working with, copy only the parts you want to model in Therm into a new, empty CAD drawing. Put the geometry somewhere near CADs origin point*. Then PURGE. Doing these things should greatly improve your chance for success in importing.

*If it's way off in space, it can be hard to find in THERM, although CTRL+ right click might help you there.

Actually everything you see is part of the future model.  R3 and R4 don’t work on my end though.
I thought the same thing about purging, but after I set a detail to 0,0 and purge the file shows up blank for me.

Hi

try sharing your dxf file exported with the oldest version your sw can export.

Ciao

Can I ask what version of therm you’re using?

Dear Jonathan, I had precisely the same problem as you, and yes, I agree with you. It is much more practical to import the dxf file of the model than drawing it all by hand ( time is money), but unfortunately, I did not get a reply from Therm on how to resolve the problem.

Best regards,

Like I said, your R3 and R4 dxf drawings are working for me. The drawings are good. Using Therm 7.8.71. Here is R3 as an underlay in Therm. You will need to press F7 or  CTRL+ right click to "zoom to fit" and it should show up.

....Actually because of how the underlay works, they arent really embedded in the the therm file so that file may not help you :(. But your dxf is definitely working with therm on my end.

Oh wow, it was just F7.  I could not see it for the life of me, I thought it was showing blank.

Does scale matter?  These are dawn in metric and I am selecting metric on import so I am assuming its proper?

Scale will be important, yes. Get your drawing to where its full scale in the CAD program in whichever unit you like to work in. Then choose that unit in the underlay window and you should be good to go. Use the tape measure tool (F8) for a sanity check and then have at it!
