Dear Colleagues,
I hope this letter finds you well. Global Rights, an organization committed to strengthening Nigeria's civic space through capacity building and strategic partnerships recently, with support from the EU Commission, started a new project aimed at building multi-stakeholders platform to improve the civil society regulatory environment in Nigeria.
As part of this ongoing efforts, Global Rights has commissioned Dede Kadiri as part of the team to lead an intervention in developing a Joint Learning Platform to create a ranking dashboard with indicators using predetermined criteria to monitor each state's reactivity and responsiveness to improving the civil society regulatory environment across the 36 states and the FCT.
We seek your valuable input to validate a Protocol for Assessing CSOs' Operational Environment across the states in Nigeria. The Protocol is based on the guidelines of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights Guidelines on Freedom of Association and Assembly in Africa.
The aim of this specific intervention is primarily to conduct a mapping exercise to identify each state's reactivity and responsiveness to improving the regulatory environment for CSOs across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The result of this mapping will be used to develop a ranking dashboard that will serve as a gauge for measuring each state's efforts in either improving or repressing the civic space over time in Nigeria. This dashboard will provide a comprehensive overview of the strength of legal and regulatory frameworks, the level of harassment and intimidation faced by CSOs, and the degree of support provided to CSOs by the state government.
To ensure that the Protocol accurately captures the nuances and realities on the ground, we value the expertise and insights of civil society leaders like yourself. Therefore, we kindly request your input and feedback on the proposed Protocol serving as indicators for predetermined criteria to be deployed in gathering relevant data for the ranking exercise.
We will appreciate if we could get your feedbacks within the next seven days (latest by Tuesday 11 July, 2023). You can send your inputs by return mail or post to the following address: innovati...@gmail.com.
Thank you.
Sincerely,--
