I've supported this idea since I first learned to speak Spanish. The South gets a lot of grief these days, but they sure got this right.

I have always found the phrase sweet and welcoming to my ears.

When I later learned it was red-necky, I looked again for the hidden wickedness, yet could find none.

I had learned that it's possible to be red-necky and nice at the same time.  Explains a lot.
