I've lost track (If I ever knew) of when the next dinner is. Assuming I can make it, anybody who is interested (and not bothered by gees) is welcome to take a ride.

I pick it up on Tuesday.

What color did you choose?

I'm impressed by that new tone -- half red, half orange, half molten lava, adding up to 150% of the recommended maximum ocular stimulation.

The image I posted is actually my configuration. They render a version of the car you order. I like white cars.

They do have some nice colors, though. I think you mean the red currently on the splash page:

And, I should have mentioned, if any of you are thinking of buying soon, this link will get you $1,000 off:

You just have to get the car by mid July.

I just got home from picking it up. My biggest problem so far is that, when I punch it, it flings the phone from its charging cradle. Going to have to come up with a way to strap it in.

Holy crap, is this thing fast.

Cool.....as long as there's nothing in front of you.  Have fun.
Go be those guys in the car ads, winding up the California coast hightway at way over the speed limit.

Aye, aye, sir!

(When there are lots of people in front of me I just let Autopilot handle it. Really took the stress out of coming up 80 yesterday afternoon.)

Please say more about this Autopilot feature.  Is it really a discernible step closer than cruise control to full blown "driverless" capability?

It's sort of Level 2 autonomous driving, which means just barely. On a highway with clearly visible lane markings it can do both Traffic Aware Cruise Control and Auto Steer. It has forward facing radar and a camera, plus a lot of ultrasonic sensors. It can stay in the lane and adjust speed with traffic, and even make lane changes when commanded. The display shows surrounding traffic and even manages to distinguish cars from semi trucks — most of the time.

It doesn't drive as smoothly nor with as much anticipation as I do, but it does just fine. Really nice in heavy traffic as it frees me up to just monitor the big picture.

I have yet to try the auto park features. They are similar to those available on many other luxury cars, or so I gather.

Did it require the equivalent of formal training?  A class?  More than one hour of serious manual reading?

My wife bought a new car last year.  It had a lot of new sensor-based features we were unfamiliar with, and I found the dealer's instructions entirely inadequate.  There was no orderly presentation of the new machine, only dozens of cute tricks that he tossed out like candy, adding up to no concrete concept of what the engineers were trying to do.  I just know I still don't use most of it.  (Of course, that would apply to every piece of computer software I use as well.)

Nope. Pull onto highway, check the display to see if the car sees the road, double-pull the control stalk. The car chimes and let's you know it's driving. It also reminds you to keep hands on the wheel. Easy peasey.

Hey Craig,

Were you driving around my neighborhood last Thursday?

I saw a white Tesla just like yours drive up Gilman and wondered if it was you.

The car looked really cool.

Brian

P.S. I want a ride at the next ID dinner.

I… Yes, that’s possible. I think I did go up Gilman on Thursday.

You bet. If not sooner.

It's is not, it isn't ain't, and it's it's, not its, if you mean
it is. If you don't, it's its. Then too, it's hers. It isn't
her's. It isn't our's either. It's ours, and likewise yours and
theirs.
