Not so much. Surveys of the Republican base keep showing distinct
racial animus, mirroring the propaganda constantly spewing out of
outlets like Fox.

Maybe she did, but a couple of things:
- We don't know what she'd actually have done if it came to brass
tacks in a primary, and
- Her opinion doesn't control.

I don't feel sad about it because I've never even briefly been tempted
to be a Republican. The Republican base was very clearly bigoted
assholes when Goldwater swept the Confederacy in 1964. I was born in
1968, and they've never wavered from that in my lifetime, even though
their public rhetoric has changed occasionally.
