Has anyone replaced their roller wheel with a similar sized delrin or rubber?
Thanks

I replaced one on my Bristol 45.5 with delrin or similar material. This boat was about 40k pounds with appropriate ground tackle and the material stood up well for years to come and hundred of nights at anchor. Was made by a competent machine shop in Australia and I followed the advice of the shop owner.

Have successfully replaced many stock Klacko Cast Aluminum rollers with Delrin/Acetyl alternatives.  I am sure to start an argument here, but I do not recommend using UHMW or Nylon....your machinist will also thank you...what you save in material cost...will be spent on labour to deal with the stringers.

Note that you should have some SS axle/compression tubes inside those rollers.....if they are still in good shape, no need to change out. Definitely not recommended to run without them in place. The roller hole should be bored for clearance for this compression axle to run smooth. The roller should be slightly narrow of the compression axle to run freely.

I may have some old/new stock of the anodized aluminum versions if anyone is interested.

For Delrin/Acetyl replacements in USA, I would highly recommend Meri Marine;  He will even tailor make your roller match your anchor shank.  https://dreamgreen.org/merimarine   Usually runs $85-150 USD per roller depending on qty and size.

If you're still looking, I just saw a range of stock delrin rollers at https://www.marinedepotdirect.com/anchor-roller-replacement-wheels.html

I haven't checked if they work for our boats, I was looking for other stuff and just spotted them.

I never thought of replacing/repairing12 this aluminum roller until I saw this post. Last weekend I took apart the one I use most often and put some grease on it. I don't know why I didn't do this years ago. So much quieter and and rolls much easier. It used to howl very loud.

I want to replace it with a plastic one but the groove in the center of the roller annoys me. The anchor line, on a windy night, when the boat is swinging side to side as the Nonsuch does, pops in and out of this grove making a loud clunk  every few minutes.

Is the grove to hold the anchor steady? I think I would rather have one of these rollers without the groove.

I don't know the function of the groove, but I'd guess that metal chain on delrin would at least a bit better than metal on metal from a noise standpoint.

Is the groove there to help align the chain for the Gypsies and to prevent twists in the chain?  It seems to work that way on our system.

I believe that the groove is to align the rope part of the rode.

I purchased a delrin roller but have not replaced it yet. However I walked my small marina of about 50 boats, both sail and power and most if not all had either a rubber (?) or delrin type roller.
