Daffodil ride this Saturday

It's time once again for the GEARs Daffodil ride. Those who have been around a while remember when this was a ride to the Long Tom Grange annual Daffodil Festival east of Junction City for cinnamon rolls and coffee. The festival was cancelled during Covid and never returned, but we still do the ride. 

We have two choices for riding. The shorter 10-12 group led by Ted Conover meets at the Starbucks at the north end of Junction City at 10 am and follows a loop route out to the grange and back on High Pass. The 13-15 group that I lead leaves from the parking lot at North Eugene High School on Silver Lane at 9:30 sharp and goes out River Road to High Pass Rd, then Turnbow to Ferguson and back to the Junction City Starbucks.  When the groups converge around 11:30-12 we will provide coffee (in a box) at Starbucks so you don't have to order and wait. (I'll bring some snacks but you can also purchase at Starbucks or BYO). The 13-15 group then follows a different route back to North Eugene so we don't have to be on River Rd twice.

The current forecast calls for overnight rain Friday into Saturday but ending well before we start the ride. I'll keep an eye out in case the forecast changes but assume we're going unless you hear from me.

I encourage 13-15 riders especially to download this route because it's different from any of our other Junction City routes.

The Daffodil ride was my very first GEARs ride and it’s a great route. Because it’s such a popular ride among our members, I want to point out that none of our 16+ ride leaders currently have volunteered to lead.

If you normally ride 16+, please consider volunteering to lead rather than signing up for the 13–15 group. When faster riders fill those spots it takes space from riders who actually ride that pace, can unintentionally increase the overall speed of the group, and sometimes leads to smaller groups taking off from the front without a clear leader. That can make it harder to maintain the intended pace and reduces rider accountability and can impact rider experience for new comers.

As the weather improves and more people come out to ride, signing up for the pace you truly intend to ride helps keep groups balanced and ensures everyone has the experience they expect.
