It is with great sadness and a heavy heart to share the news that Matt Slay has passed away from COVID-19 earlier today. You may recognize Matt for his many contributions to the Fox Community on VFPX with the next generation of GoFish, DynamicForms, assisting Jim Nelson and Doug Hennig with the development and testing of Thor, inspiring the Go To Definition feature in Thor, and the VFP language template for VS Code, just to name a few of his contributions. Matt also inspired other developers to create things for our community when he was not tackling them himself. He was very good at twisting arms of fellow Visual FoxPro developers to get other things contributed.

Matt leaves behind his wife Sharon and two teenage sons. This is an absolute gut punch and is a terrible way to extinguish a shining star in our community.

Oh, what a loss.  Such a sad day, for me personally and for the FoxPro community, too.

Matt was a close, close friend.  We met (remotely) right after SW Fox 2008, and over the years we worked very hard together and had lots of fun doing so.  Untold number of phone calls, more than 23,000 emails (per GMail).

Matt was a good, warm, funny, brilliant man.  We talked regularly on his way to or from work in Birmingham, the last time only two days before he got sick in very early September.  I wish I could remember what we talked about.

It was really good to read Rick's descriptions of his contributions to the Fox community, even if he understated them.  He and I made a great team, and he was the idea man.  So much of my first work on PEMEditor and later on Thor originated in Matt's mind.  Yes, he was very good at getting somebody else (me, in this case) to implement his ideas, although I gave it back to him with his work on GoFish.

I can't imagine not having him to talk to.  I grieve for him, Sharon, and the two sons who so need him.

Sad news and a great loss indeed.  Though I have not had the opportunity to meet him personally but yes I had been in communication with him on this and universal thread.

My condolences to his family for this irreplaceable loss

Oh, that's really sad news to wake up to. I had the pleasure to meet Matt several times, and we have had infrequent email correspondence over the last 10+ years. He was always very helpful and friendly. I miss him already.

A Good Morning Prayer!

Dear Father in Heaven, please be with Matt Slay's family and friends as they come to grips with grief and loss of his passing.  Remind them... remind us of Matt's good life and the light he shined... and now he has passed that light to us to carry on. May we honor him as we continue to step into each new day. Amen!
