The theme of last’s week meeting was “Innovate”.
A round of applause for Asmaa Hammad for doing a great job as Toastmaster for the first time. We listened to two speeches during the meeting. Helen Bryant gave a calm yet robust speech, as her evaluator JohnRich Levine stated, when she spoke about age discrimination in corporations. Linh Nguyen gave a storytelling speech about the power in small acts of kindness. During the table topics session led by Sarah Cocking, we heard a feel-good story of a college cook receiving money for her mortgage. We also heard about the benefits of just one Ikea product. We were encouraged by Linda Rudd to listen to podcasts by Darien Coach to help us hone in on our speaking skills.
Linda Rudd who is also our VP of Education, gave us two takeaways regarding speech objectives. One, the same speech can be given multiple times and yet have different objectives, and two, remember that each speech has a focus and we would want to remind our speaker of their objective when evaluating.
Many thanks to our guests Lauren Taylor and Jennifer for attending.
