What Happened to "Alamotyrannus brinkmani"?

So, I have a question regarding an informally named tyrannosaur (maybe a specimen of Tyrannosaurus?) named "Alamotyrannus brinkmani."

Apparently, the holotype its a 70 million year old fragmentary tyrannosaur right dentary. The holotype is ACM 7975.

One issue is it supposedly being from the Ojo Alamo Formation, if it's 70 million years old. That formation's date ranges from 69-64 Ma. Was "Alamotyrannus originally believed to be younger, prior to reassessment?

If so, does it not come from Ojo Alamo? What formation does it come from, then?

Is there any work being done on it? Sorry if I'm asking too much, but I'm just confused. Is "Alamotyrannus" a species of Tyrannosaurus? A T. rex? Another Tyrannosaurus genus?

I...just have so many questions as to what's going on.

ACM 7975 is a very poorly preserved partial dentary. It's pretty much just an indeterminate tyrannosaur.

A word to the wise, since this is the second request for information on informally named/undescribed material this week: if you’re looking for more information on an unpublished or in-progress work/taxon/etc., it would probably be best to contact the individuals involved directly with it. Even if people in-the-know are part of the DML, it’s unlikely that they’d share much new information since it’s essentially a public forum.

Which is not to say that you shouldn’t ever try the DML for such queries, but you may get better results from direct contact.

Thanks for the clear up. I was confused because I thought it was the same as the “Tyrannosaurus vannus” specimen (an indeterminate species of Tyrannosaurus), which is from the Javelina Formation. Part of this might have been me getting Javelina & Ojo Alamo mixed up, sometimes.

There’s also this blog post from The Theropod Database Blog, which suspects that the “Alamotyrannus” material actually consists of multiple taxa.

Since I think work is still being done, I’ll just have to see what comes of it.

I'll say my entry on The Theropod Database probably has the most updated publicly available info on it, as I just made it several months ago. But I will also second the prior person replying that you're not likely to get new information on a taxon by asking the DMG "anyone have new info on X?".

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably consider contacting Dalman in the future.

And to Mickey, your entry on the Theropod Database was pretty much the reason why I asked. Up to 4 tyrannosaur taxa being worked on? And they're all related to "Alamotyrannus?" Now, I'm just wondering what's going on.

I guess I'll just have to wait another decade.
