Hello,
I just completed two boxes. The problem I am having is that everything works fine with power plugged directly into the Arduino, but when I plug into the dongle attached to the breadboard I just get an orange light blinking ("L") on the Arduino. I have checked everything and cant make sense of it. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks,
T

Thanks Mike,
I did see that, but not sure that’s the issue, as that would suggest something off in the code, which I suspect is unlikely.
Is it a problem to just have my ac adapter plugged directly into the arduino as opposed to the dongle attached to the breadboard? Everything works as it should plugged in there.
Thanks

Travis,

Have you tried testing the dongle with a multimeter to ensure it is outputting the correct voltage? If that's not it I'd suggest you run through tests on the breadboard to make sure there are no issues there either. Keep us posted!

IMG_9293.jpegIMG_9294.jpegThanks Josh,

I have tested the wires from the dongle all the way to the Arduino and am getting the correct voltage. As I mentioned, everything works perfectly when I plug directly into the Arduino. I built two of these and both are doing the same thing. Could it be the code isn’t navigating the power correctly through the breadboard?

Hi

I haven't built any crowbox myself so I am not familiar with the dongle or the setup but can remember having some similar arduino issues when my grounds were not connected / common.

So you need to make sure all your grounds are connected.

Kind regards
Twan

I have the arduino running power through a breadboard, and seems to be okay.  I had a spare board, and I built one out yesterday and it seemed to work alright.  Certainly doesn't mean it couldn't be a number of variables though.

What kind of power are you running into the board - is it plugged into the wall, or do you have a power bank that you are using?
Tough to validate the wiring you have, but give that a check, specifically the Rows 15 and 17, which will be the ground and power.  As well as the power in.

Only other thing I can suggest is making sure your breadboard connections are tight.  I had many issues with loose connections there that would provide intermittent power and operability.  So much so that I built a soldered breadboard.  It was just pointed out to me that a dab of hot glue on the breadboard connection would work just as well, so maybe try that too!

Good luck!

+1 on the breadboard connections. Most of my similar problems end up being loose connections.

Travis,
Please look through this thread as it might offer some guidance:

I am currently thinking there might be something wrong with breadboard where the power adapter is connected.
What power adapters did you get?

When connected to the computer, does the serial output show anything helpful?

I'll be back home later today and should have more time to assist.
Thanks,
MK
