Cool that this place is still active! I've never had time to build a crow box myself but this idea has never left my brain since i first saw the TED talk all those years ago. So i was thinking the other day - and i'm just going to dump this idea here:
In Ukraine there's a lot of discarted fibre optical cable from drone use, maybe some of you have seen the images of ghostly shimmering strands of silver, like a spiderweb. It's an environmental disaster happening in an active warzone. The first pictures of birds building nests out of fibre optic cable have already been seen, which is unfortunately not cute but afwul, since the broken ends of the wire are as sharp as hypodermic needles.
So then. Can we use the crow box to clean up fields of this stuff in Ukraine?
There are some logistical challenges, the crow box will need to be serviced entirely by drones, the area is far too dangerous. And crows can pick up fragments for sure (as far as i know the stuff breaks after a while) but how do you deal with large pieces of wire, can a crow actually break it?
What do you guys think? Is this a realistic idea?
