Steve was one of our core group. Perhaps reach out to Michael if you are interested and not a member of the Lapdogs.

Hello fellow cyclists and friends of Steve Hart,

Steve_FBookEvent_2023.jpeg

On behalf of the LapDogs Cycling Club, we would like to invite you to our Annual Tour de Hart, a celebration of Steve (our dear friend and gentle giant) and honour his contributions to our cycling community, our club and our sport.

We will be rolling out from High Park on the morning of September 4th, riding through Milton to Cafe Domestique in Dundas in which the LDCC has made arrangements for lunch and refreshments for all participants. (this is n/c, the Club will be picking up there tab)

Given this is an LDCC event, sanctioned by Ontario Cycling, it is very important that all who participate also be members of Ontario Cycling or an Ontario Cycling affiliated Club / Team. If you are not currently affiliated with an Ontario Cycling group, have no fear, will make arrangements to get appropriate waiver information to you.

To lock in numbers and "register" participants, we will be using our LDCC Cycling Club App. Once you have sent us your RSVP, expect an invitation to this APP within 24 to 48 hours. It is very important that all participants on this ride indicate their attendance on the APP. If you show up at the ride and you are not properly registered, you cannot participate.

RSVP, no later than August 30th, so we can inform Cafe Domestique of numbers for lunch.

To RSVP:
  • Reply to this email
  • Let us know your Ontario Cycling or Club/Team Affiliation
  • If not affiliated, let us know and we'll provide you with waiver information
  • Deadline to RSVP is August 30th, 6pm

Very important.... this is not a Race. This is a ride in honour of our fallen comrade in which we want to get everyone to Dundas together. Be prepared for an approximate 140k round trip. After lunch, we may open things up and break the group into a collection of smaller packs in which speeds may vary depending on the make-up of each group. For those who only want to join as far as Dundas, the GO Train back is a good option (a few club members will be doing this).

Once back in Toronto, some LDCC folks will be heading to Bandit Brewery to raise a glass for Steve. Feel free to join in.

We look forward to riding with you on September 4th. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact myself of Barry Cox.

Morning Goons!

Remember when we had a cross race in Christie Pits? Wouldn't it be so fucking cool if that happened again?!?

Like that old saying "if you can't do, teach" I'm swapping my ambivalence about personal race results with a goal to revive the Christie Pits Cyclocross Race in 2024. Leveraging my connections at the City and Councillor Saxe's office and pulling together a lean and keen team to help get this going. I've reached out to a few clubs and shops and there is no shortage of interest and support, and I'm calling for volunteers to help organize.

I know some on this email chain were involved in 2016/2017. I've connected with Marcus B and dusted off the application forms and documents from the last races. The next step is to arrange a meeting with the Councillor and the events team at the OCA. If anyone would like to participate, volunteer, organize, or support in any way, please let me know. A race in Toronto is an easy win from a registration and cashflow perspective, if we build it people will race!

Give me a call or text anytime - 416 450 9868

Thanks y'all!

Yup.  I’m in.   But only if it is not OCA affiliated. I don’t want them to boost the price off and make it out of reach for newer riders
Cheers!

Hey Goons,

While it's unlikely I will return to the Big Smoke to help run a cx race, I can ask Nathan in Niagara for advice about it as he's been organizing and running cx races for years.

To echo Barry's comments, I know there is a big gong show issue of whether you do an OCA race or an independent race.  From my understanding, if you do an OCA, there is very little financial risk, but there is also less freedom and very little financial benefit.  I also think the OCA gives preference for dates if you go OCA...but a Toronto race is destined to be a hit...so the risk seems less intense.

Love this Connor!

Connor,

I am adding Michael Cranwell to the list of folks who are interested. Michael was extremely involved in the previous incarnation of the cookie cross, and still owns the name CXTO collective.   Wow the previous cookie cross was not a lapdog only event, a number of folks from the club, including Marcus Boyle whom you have already spoken with, myself, Steve Hart (rest in peace) and Michael were involved.  Michael would also like to be involved again, and has a fair amount of experience in the last go round. Also, we have a whole bunch of tape, stakes  and other fun stuff that can likely be put to good use while keeping expenses down
Cheers!
