Hey friends, I was chatting with Colin last week and realized how much I missed riding with him.

Would anyone be interested in a trip south to the Niagara region to ride with our dear friend?

Maybe in May before the bugs get bad. There's some great MB and of course CX right near him.

Hey Goonies,

Would love to see all of you and would LOVE to get out for a ride!  

It's been pretty wet here, and the local 12-mile trails drain very poorly (clay), so not likely good for a ride.  Fireman's Park in Niagara Falls drains better and should be rideable.  It's more fun on an MTB, but a skilled Goon should be able to ride it on a CX.  Turkey Point would likely be the best conditions if anyone is interested in going there (my preference).  CX or MTB is possible at Turkey Point.

Anyone up for a ride?  My vote is Turkey Turkey, but I'm open to suggestions.

Say...Sat at 9 or 10am?

I tend to ride on Saturdays, but I can probably make Sat or Sun work if I know ahead of time.  This weekend Saturday is wide open. I am only free until noon on Sunday.

How about next Saturday April 20th. Social Goon ride before P2A the next day. 

After that my Saturdays are booked for a while with gravel races and brevets.

Because the race has jumped the shark….i was never happy participating in this race since the DQ debacle of 2018. 

  But now the cost is over $200 for the 100k before the additional cost of wild extravagances of parking near the finish, being able to change indoors after the race and (gasp) actually being able to pick up my race kit on race day.   Pay for those things and it’s over $300 which is more than I paid for Leadville or Unbound.  The race has been made too big for the available infrastructure, and the promoters are using that as an excuse to participants for every little thing, while simultaneously charging more than any other race in the province

The final straw, however, was when this year I got an email from the race promoters telling those of us in wave one to “get our act together” (exact words) provide a race license number otherwise we would not be able to start in wave 1.

And don’t even get me started on the fact that before the 2022 race, rather than a land acknowledgment, they had a bunch of guys in colonial uniform shooting off a cannon. Talk about tone deaf

It’s quite obvious that this race is no longer the grassroots event that I came to love.  I would rather use my money to support races where the organizers value the participants business.

Yes it’s gotten more expensive. What hasn’t??

While the race itself for unbound might be cheaper, getting there certainly isn’t. 

IMHO the race got better when they increased it to 100km and despite the cost, the VIP experience is well worth it.

Either way, I hope everyone has an awesome race. Hope we get to share a beer afterwards.

What was the DQ debacle?? Dairy Queen?

I stopped doing P2A maybe 5 years ago. The last time I raced it there were so many crashes - lots of bike and people damage on view. Pretty edgy experience. I crash more than enough all on my own, so…
