Dear Friends,

The Sangha will gather online Saturday, August 28, from 9am  to 10:30 am ish. (connection info below)

We will share music, sitting meditation, and a period of dharma sharing.

We will use two breakout rooms during dharma sharing. Each group will discuss one of the quotes from Thich Nhat Hanh below.

Please join us on this path, no matter where you are!

Quotes from Thich Nhat Hanh
  1. "When you plant lettuce, you don’t blame the lettuce if it does not grow well. You look into the reasons why it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends or our family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of others, they will grow well, just like the lettuce. Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade by means of reason or argument. That is my experience. No blame, no reasoning, no argument—just understanding. If you understand, and you show that you understand, you can love, and any difficult situation will improve."  (From: At Home in the World: Stories and Essential Teachings from a Monk's Life by Thich Nhat Hanh, 2016. It's in the chapter "Lettuce.")

  2. “We are here to Awaken from the illusion of our separateness" (From: How to Connect" by Thich Nhat Hanh, 2020)
Later in the same book, he writes about Interbeing:
"'Interbeing' means that nothing can be by itself alone, but can only inter-be with everything else. Suppose we look at a rose deeply, with mindfulness and concentration. Before long, we will discover that a rose is made of only non-rose elements. What do we see in the rose? We see the cloud, the rain, the sunshine, the soil, the minerals, the gardener. If we were to remove the non-rose elements, there would be no rose left. A rose cannot be by herself alone. A rose has to inter-be with the whole cosmos. We can live our daily life seeing everything in the light of interbeing. Then we will not be caught in our small self. We will see our connection, our joy and our suffering everywhere."

Hello friends,  I may likely be absent this Sunday; such organized effort should afford a significant experience, and I look forward to the reflective benefits of this approach in our sharing. Al
