This is our second project dedicated to "Women & Society."

This time we will collect a number of poems from Female Poets only -- it will be our 2nd book after 'Fifty-six Female Voices of Contemporary Poetry.'

For such a book, we'll pick 3 to 5 poems from each poetess (please, do NOT send more than 5 poems).

Therefore we invite all poetesses to send their unpublished poems to this Group/Forum: "Women & Society"

Any topic is accepted, but at least 1 (out of the three / five poems) has to be about "the female condition" *

* = that is, generally speaking, the fact that "being a woman is seen as less good than being a man" (a widespread patriarchal mindset!)

Since only the registered members can submit their poems to the Forum, you need to ask for registration to the Group:

N.B.: YOU MUST STATE THAT THE POEMS YOU SUBMIT ARE UNPUBLISHED.

Do not submit poems already posted at PoemHunter, Facebook, and/or other web-sites/social.

Note: 1 month after the publication of the anthology, you will be free to publish the submitted poem wherever you like.

As always:

the new entries have to add a brief BIOGRAPHY (no longer than 200 words), written in 1st person, stating

clearly:

First name
Family name
Nationality
Country + Year of birth
City/Country where currently living

Note: for publishing and copyright issues, we need to know the real name of all the poets. You can of course add your 'nom de plume' - pen name.

The copyright of the poems will remain in the hands of their Authors, but all Participants will accept to make us free to publish the ebook at no cost and without any other obligation on our part than to publish the poems selected (the acceptance of this point will be attested, by each Participant, by simply sending their poems). To make it clear: by submitting their poems the Authors agree to grant non-exclusive world rights to Fabrizio Frosini and 'Poets Unite Worldwide' for publishing the submitted poems in books, without fee, so long as the Authors are credited --this does not prevent the Authors from publishing their poems anytime, anywhere, by themselves, or from granting others the right to do so.

All participants will receive their own copy of the ebook (file PDF or EPUB).

NO FEES are requested.

A Judging Committee will decide if the poems are worthy to be accepted for publication.

Theme of the Anthology is
"The Status of Women in Society"

We have chosen such a topic because we advocate a true gender equality.

Gender discrimination affects girls and women everywhere, in our world, even in the most advanced societies. Violence against women is widespread, often inside the family, and women and girls are often the ones that suffer the most poverty.
In many countries, women are not entitled to a proper education, their political rights are restricted, and they are not entitled even to own property or inherit land. Social exclusion/restriction keep them in a state of submission to the head of family (father / husband). Early marriages, “honor killings", female genital mutilations, sexual exploitation & trafficking, domestic violence/abuse, turn the lives of hundreds of millions of girls and women in a daily nightmare..

Thus, we might call it: "Poetry OF WITNESS" on behalf of the Brighter Half of the Sky..

Indeed, we've chosen "The Status of Women in Society", as the theme of the book, because it is a very important issue for everybody who advocate a true gender equality. Therefore, the aim of our compilation is to explore specifically the Gender Discrimination issue.

So you see: we ask for poems that can be labeled as "Poetry of Witness", because all women, and particularly the 1.1 billion girls in the world, deserve it.
We have the moral obligation, as poets, to show them not only a mere 'solidarity', but an active action towards equality. As human beings, especially if males (husbands/fathers/siblings/sons/friends), we can (we have to) do that, daily, through our deeds. As poets, we can do that also through our poetry.

Added on Oct. 7:

According to a report released by UNICEF, UN children's agency, ahead of International Day of the Girl on October 11 :
“.. girls sacrifice important opportunities to learn, grow, and just enjoy their childhood. This .. perpetuates gender stereotypes and the double-burden on women and girls across generations.” [UNICEF’s Anju Malhotra]

..Time spent on chores limits a girl’s time to play, socialize with friends, study and be a child. In some countries, collecting firewood and water puts girls at risk of sexual violence.

“Quantifying the challenges girls face is the first critical step towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goal on gender equality and breaking down barriers that confront the world’s 1.1 billion girls,” [UNICEF's Attila Hancioglu]

In addition .., the report presents data on girl-related issues addressed by the SDGs including violence, child marriage, female genital mutilation and education. ... empowering girls with the knowledge, skills and resources they need to reach their full potential, is not only good for girls, but can drive economic growth, promote peace and reduce poverty.

Added on Oct. 11:

New child bride 'every seven seconds'

According to a report by Save the Children, 1 girl under the age of 15 is married every 7 seconds.
The study says girls as young as 10 are forced to marry much older men in countries including Afghanistan, Yemen, India and Somalia.
Save the Children says early marriage can trigger a cycle of disadvantage across every part of a girl's life.
Conflict, poverty and humanitarian crises are seen as major factors that leave girls exposed to child marriage.
"Child marriage starts a cycle of disadvantage that denies girls the most basic rights to learn, develop and be children," said Save the Children International CEO Helle Thorning-Schmidt. "Girls who marry too early often can't attend school, and are more likely to face domestic violence, abuse and rape. They fall pregnant and are exposed to STIs (sexually transmitted infections) including HIV."
The report says girls affected by conflict are more likely to become child brides. It says many refugee families marry off their daughters as a way to protect them against poverty or sexual exploitation. The Save the Children's report coincides with International Day of the Girl on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The UN children's agency, Unicef, estimates that the number of women married in childhood will grow from 700 million today to around 950 million by 2030.

Update, Oct. 5:

To make anyone more involved, starting November 1 (= deadline expired), for 1 week, all members will be allowed to designate up to 3 poems as the best ones (from their point of view) in the compilation.
[Note: no one will be allowed to choose their own poem].

The best 5 poems [but their number might be a bit higher, we'll see in November..] so identified, will get a special mention when the book will be published.
