Hi Everyone, I hope you've had a good winter!  I'm excited to get the sailing season started and am looking forward to the North Americans (May 16-19) and Worlds (Aug 1-10).

I have already received a couple inquiries from y'all about our West Coast container to Sweden for the worlds August 1-10 and am starting to get organized.  We will likely be shipping from Long Beach, either immediately after the NA's or soon enough after that it is feasible to leave boats in that location.  Return shipping will also be to the West Coast (Oakland or Long Beach, TBD).  I do not have a quote yet but am working on it.  For reference, Cork shipping (which was during an especially expensive/difficult time to ship) cost around 27k round trip, all in, before grants.

I'll get working on logistics, but for now I would like to collect a $1000 deposit from each team who would like to confirm their spot in the container.  Here are the terms of the deposit:
- If no west coast group shipping happens, the deposits will be returned less any expenses (which might include e.g. tipping agents who have done work for us etc).  I expect expenses in this case to be near zero.
- If west coast group shipping does happen, and you choose not to go, the deposit is nonrefundable and will help defray the costs of others.
- If west coast group shipping happens but capacity is such that some boats are excluded, those deposits will obviously be returned.  I do not expect this to be the case/am working on accommodating all interest, but can't promise anything yet.
- This deposit does not guarantee you a way to get your boat to Sweden.  It gives you higher priority than anyone not giving a deposit and gives me a firm number of boats to attempt to accommodate. If you make a deposit and a container is delayed/lost at sea/otherwise misses worlds, or if the container falls through due to lack of interest, I am not liable for getting your boat to Sweden and/or reimbursing costs you may have incurred in anticipation of the event.  That being said, I will obviously do everything I can to make this container happen/have everything work out, as I have done in the past.

Electronic payment is best: paypal or zelle (eric.t.a...@gmail.com) or venmo (@eric-t-anderson).

I'm happy to answer any further questions people have, as well.

Best,
Eric

Hi all I’m curious to know from your previous experience, is it less expensive to charter a boat or to ship your boat to Europe?

Also, there was some discussion about an event in Barcelona before the Worlds in Sweden.  Is there any further information about this?

If your boat is shipped to the Worlds site,, are there opportunities to get space on a multi boat trailer to attend other events / regattas at other locations in Europe?  (I guess it would have to end up back in Sweden to get shipped back…)

Thank you in advance for any info you could share ….

Hi Ole,
I don't have details about the Barcelona event or ability to move around boats in Europe. I might chat with Nelly from p/b about logistical support.
I will say that sailing a charter boat is always a headache unless you go there early and really sort it all out. There's always some sort of repair needed and you don't know the equipment.
In terms of price, I've had charters quoted to me all over the place, I think market is probably around $400 a day but I'm not sure. Sometimes you can find friends who will do it for less.
Sorry to not be of more help,
Eric

Hi everyone, friendly reminder to please respond back here and send me a deposit if you're interested in shipping to Sweden. I need to amass a critical number of deposits before it makes sense to continue organizing logistics.

Best,
Eric

Hi everyone! To date I have received one deposit for shipping, and many of the people who responded with initial interest in my survey a few months ago have confirmed they're no longer interested.
The only three outstanding names I have are Mike / Adam, Macy, and Ethan. If my one deposit and those three are all interested, we can figure out how to get them east to pick up Ethan's boat and ship from there. Other than that, I don't think there is sufficient interest for a container to Sweden.

Please make a ruckus now if this sounds wrong to people.

Eric
