Like the previous version the nozzle crashed a number of times at the upper stages. Again like before I suspect the silk expanded. It continued after I checked it, but it left a couple of layer areas open. I think in the episode we talked about the previous version with the single trunk which I already posted a pic of.

Thanks for the feedback. Bummer about the nozzle crashes. Is it designed to print completely without supports? I'm just curious...

So I have actual wood infused PLA I wanted to try this roots pot with... Turns out it's not really well suited to multi-color printing. It kind of foams and expands and doesn't stick well at all with the other PLA.

So printing it now with a light brown PLA, and the StrongHero slate/rock colored PLA that has a PETG core. Should look pretty good.

After this maybe I'll dry the wood PLA and that will help with the foaming/expanding.

To get the wood look you need to use the smart fill tool and adjust it so that the nooks and crannies are a different color than the rest if the trunks.

The Smart Fill tool you speak of Andy - that's in the Prusa Slicer?

I was also wondering if I could print the whole thing in 2 parts - so print the Roots part separately from pot/bowl part. This way - I could print it with my Elegoo Carbon that has only single head and no filament switching. Anyway - was just kinda curious...

I'm printing it 2 color and drybrushing the wood part.

Just wish I could have used the actual wood filament, I could have stained it.

Have you actual tried staining the wood filament? I experimented with it several years ago (Hatchbox wood filament), but it didn't take stain very well. I was wondering if more current filament works better?

I have about 6 different types of wood PLA.  Every single one of them I rank as very poor when it comes to stain.

That's pretty Sweet Bryan.

So, what's the deal with the "color wash"? Does the color get more in the crannies - and then the main top surfaces of the wood structure - you wipe off the color???

Pretty much.  Just really watered down acrylic paint. Wash over it, then hit it with a dry and take some off. Do it over a few times.
