For anyone who uses Bambu Studio (particularly with Bambu printers -- i.e. H2D), how accurate is the print time estimate when slicing?

I only ask because I just installed Studio to get a feel for the slicer and how things are set up.  I sliced one of my longer prints (7h on an elegoo Neptune 3 Plus), and it came back with 2h 15 min on an H2D.

So curious, since if that holds, it's a game changer for me.

And yes, the Black Friday sale on the H2D has me really really close to pulling the trigger.

I have the Neptune 3 Plus profile loaded in Bambu Studio as well and when I slice with it, it comes up with 12+ hours, but I realize that isn't optimized, etc.

Ray - one thing you left out, in regards to your question - do you want to know if times are Accurate for Single head printing -- OR -- for printing using AMS!?!?

As you can imagine - that's a HUGE Differentiator...

I asked a buddy of mine your question - and this was the answer:
  • As far as I can remember the Bambu studio slicer I have found is only accurate (on the H2D) when using each nozzle with no filament changes. Aka the AMS really screws up the slicing time. But as a dual or single extruder, I've found it pretty accurate. And it copes with speed too. I've found in ludicrous speed (yes that's actually the name of the setting lol), so long as you ramp the temp up with it, it actually works great on solid non flimsy objects, so low and sturdy, not thin and tall. It hasn't quite figured out AMS timings yet, and it also doesn't pretend to, when using the AMS it freely says in the slicer, timings may not be accurate due to filament changes or something like that. So it's not hiding anything it says it upfront.
I pestered my friend, since I know you're a long time member of the forum here - and I really wanted to get you an answer - and I knew I could help get you a potential answer...

As an additional FYI - it's the SAME Issue I found with using Simplify3D on the Essentium printers! Now, that being said - it's Potentially possible in S3D to put in a tool change timing - and thus make things more accurate. And, who know (I surely DO NOT) - is maybe you could put some kind of Timing values into the Bambu Studio - for "tool changes" - and potentially get Better time estimates!

Thanks Kurt!  Greatly appreciated!

Great point about the filament changing impact.  For this specific case, I was looking for an apples to apples comparison, so, my Elegoo print is a single color, no filament changes and the config I was looking at in the Bambu Slicer was the same.  Single color, just print.  Quite the difference in timing, and this was all just straight out of the box so to speak, so I'm assuming it wasn't quoting "ludicrous" mode.  I did go back and review the settings to get some parameters more in line with the Elegoo settings and the estimated time came up to just over 3h, but that is still less than half of what I get now.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Ray - you're VERY WELCOME!

So - yeah - considering you want one print head compare - then, sounds like Bambu Studio can be a bit Spot on.

FYI - during my time at SD3D in San Diego - and using Simplify3D - I found the print time estimates were VERY CLOSE! So - I suspect maybe Bambu learned from them and can correctly estimate print times!

Of course, you want Hard Core Proof - ask a friend with a Bambu to print your part - to see if print times are Accurate!!!

Have you ever tried to DM someone from the forum here?

A few simple prints with some calculations, and plug the proper numbers into any slicer, will get you a reasonable, super close number.  Some online calculators will take your .gcode, plug in the print numbers, and spit out the times, etc.

Studio is accurate for Bambu products, but if you have a non-Bambu product, you really, REALLY need to use Orca instead.
