Dear all,

Finally, there is a standard for PLA producers: https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/en/#iso:std:iso:5425:ed-1:v1:en

I am very excited to see more consistency and less lottery to printing results.
Just wanted to share the news and learn what you all think about it.

Regards,

Yes Davi - it is nice that there is this kind of standardization. Although, even though there are these written standards - are co's that produce plastic, will they be Forced to follow the standards?

But, I will add - its nice that PLA is being represented in these kinds standards. However, in reality, PLA is being used less and less by those that do 3D Printing. Even though, for beginners - it Does make sense to start with PLA as the initial filament of choice!

I’ve been surprised with how many Prusa users (from the Prusa forum) are convinced that PLA is the optimal material.

It’s not that they’re noobs, many have had mkiis and iiis for quite awhile. It’s that they assume Prusa always knows best and Prusa pushes pla. If you’ve only used a Prusa you really don’t know what you don’t know.

That's truly interesting. I had no idea that Prusa pushes PLA so much!!!

Of course, Josef may be a bit Devious doing that - since he KNOWS that PLA is Easy to print. Thus, if he pushes PLA - there's less chance for people to have Print Fails! And, we know, for entry level consumers of 3DP's - too many times, for new folks - if prints fail, they tend to give up. Use the 3DP as a Door Stopper.

So - yeah - if Mr Prusa pushes PLA so much, its no wonder that all the Prusa-Fanboys just STICK with PLA - and don't attempt to print in other materials.

I think Prusa is over-blamed. Most people don't own Prusa machines. Most people own Creality machines. (Pretty much) All machines ship with a sample of PLA and a 0.4mm nozzle. Some filament mfgs only make PLA. All hot end flow rates are published in PLA, some also note ABS flow rates. Nobody wants to admit their PETG flow rate. PLA the lowest bar for printability success. Most designs on 3D model sites are designed for PLA and a 0.4mm nozzle. PLA + 0.4mm is going to give the beginner the best chance of early success with the "best" visual results.

Interesting feedback Jody. So, yeah - seems Prusa is simply following what seems to be more like an industry standard - which I get. Heck, w/PLA - you can pretty much print without a HBP - but, the HBP does help.
