Re: 3D printing inserts...

Years ago I picked up a mini anvil for doing the "final press" that Andy mentions on the show.  I have used metal rulers, the back side of big pliers, really anything flat and metal.  I do like the anvil because it's sturdy,  I do a lot of inserts so I don't mind having a dedicated solution for this.  The other thing I do is once it's pressed flat, I give the part a small twist pressing the face of the part against the anvil as I do so.  This tends to smooth over the plastic around the insert.

If I am dealing with pressing inserts in a location that can't easily be accessed for the above technique, I use flat face punches for doing the final press.   Pressing these in this way is a little more challenging, but is doable, you don't have a lot of options when access is a factor.

That mini anvil is so cute, I want one. Never thought to look for minies. The big old one's can carry quite the price tag nowadays.

Did someone say anvil? ;) This is 2 of mine.  The big one, 250#, was a 'rescue'; some local rednecks were using it in the He-Man Olympics.  The second photo is a 70# short sugar that's portable, somewhat.  I also have a 2# and somewhere a 1# and 1/2#.

Harbor freight stocks the 2# in the stores here.

Just curious,  how heavy are the big boys roughly?  120LBS ish?  I have no frame of reference.
