WOW - didn't know they increased the price of a new license. As I
thought the upgrade cost was A LOT! But, my buddy at work - who
prints a LOT at home - he has a Personal license of S3D - and he
did the upgrade ASAP! He told me, yeah - he uses this stuff for
work - as well as at home - and he obviously wants his hands on
the newest version ASAP. HE actually watched the 3DP Nerd Video
review - and so did I - I did it this morning!!! Some exciting new
features.
OF course, for us - for work - we MUST Look at this new upgrade -
and see if its worth it for our biz - as well as for our
customers.
As such, for me - its VERY Interesting to see this news - and DIG
into it - as it directly relates to my job!
-K
P.S. I don't read this forum while at work - so, one can imagine how thrilled I am to see that folks went CRAZY Here with replies. But, alas - my own replies to this thread are a bit late...

Gary - I hear you. I am sure many, MANY Folks Jumped Ship from
S3D - considering they have promised this release for like 3
years. Folks see them as Stagnating - and this release may be TOO
late for them. Their upping of initial license cost, along with a
comparatively High upgrade cost - makes it Obvious that this is
their LAST Hope to try and Survive!
Well - at least that's what I feel about the situation...

Ray - Custom profiles - exactly what we must consider at
Essentium as well!

Hey Ed,
I hear you. FYI - I come from a VERY EXTENSIVE Programming
background (although in Database systems) - but, I can still
totally relate!!!
Yes, its tough to produce SW like this with such a small team.
But, go back in time, look at some discussions about this co. -
and you will find like a parent (I think its a Mom) and a Son -
and the parent berates the son there at the co. in front of the
workers - and the co. owners do NOT treat the employees nicely!
Its a co. in trouble. Believe me - I was thinking of working for
them - circa 2018 - when I was desperate for work! After reading
about them on the Web - I was like, Wow - I better not go work for
them. And, the leadership troubles just prove why it took SO Long
to come to market w/V5!!!!
Yes, its a LOT of work for a Small team. But, keep eyes wide open.
How LONG has the co. been in existence. They obviously have NOT
BEEN Managed well! Yeah - the SW kicked ASS Some years ago - when
JetGuy would INSIST people PAY for a Slicer. But, since them -
things have changed...
Just sayin'...

If you think about it - that essentially DOUBLES the Price of a
License.
For some folks, who have a Desktop PC, and do most of their
slicing on that - but, then they have a laptop, and they may test
out a slice while on the road, or do slicing while at a friends
house who has a printer - that pretty much makes it a Sucky
situation for them.
So, although it may not affect you so much, I'm sure it affects
others much more.
Will admit, my co-worker, who works with S3D extensively, and even
more so than myself (even though I HAVE been using it for work
since like April 2019) - he gave a verbal review to a co-worker.
Essentially, although its WAY Fast (he compared slicing speed vs.
Cura) - the feature set does not seem to make it a truly
worthwhile upgrade. Sure it has some nice stuff - but, they are
only now catching up to advance features in slicers like Cura
& Prusa Slicer. And, since those Free slicers have become so
powerful - doesn't seem like much of impetus to shell out the
Bucks for S3D...
