INDX for Core One+ finally (Shipping June 2026)

Of most interest to me are:

• Will these features be implemented in the XL/S?
• Nozzle parking/stopper/wiper
• Nozzle offset calibration with eddy current sensor

I've kind of been fixated on how they would achieve offset calibration with no ability to install a calibration pin (a la XL) in the Core One bed. It will be interesting to see if the eddy current sensor will live up to the claims.

$749 for the 4 tool kit, and $999 for the 8 tool kit, plus another $1,100 for the printer as a kit (or $1,449 for an assembled one).

So either $1,849 and $2,198 for a four tool-head tool changer. In this day and age, where it seems even company is coming out with a tool changer model, that doesn't seem super competitive. Where is the value proposition?

For anyone who doesn't want to buy another marginally made product that is designed to go into the landfill in a few years, it is an option. 

The cheapest initial investment option is not always the best path to follow. Total cost of ownership includes a lot of factors besides purchase price.

How many 3D printers that were for sale in 2018 are still viable today with supported upgrades? The MK3 that I purchased in 2018 is still printing today as a MK3.5S, while many cheaper printers that were purchased later are no longer working or supported. If the goal is to fill landfills with discarded printers some companies are much farther ahead than others.

Alan - in that regards - I DO Agree with you. 

Andy HAS covered this in the podcast - how his XL is Way more expensive than the Bambu X1C - BUT - Amortized over time - the XL is Better since it's FASTER to Print - AND - More Importantly - WAY LESS Filament Waste!!! So - yeah - I get it. 

Those are some of the reasons why I got my U1 Toolchanger - but, so far - I am FRUSTRATED by the MASSIVE Prime tower that is being printed!!! Case in point - printing this Dragons:

Each produced such a BIG block of waste - each the height (obviously) of each Dragon(they are about 2" tall):

In the end - I would LOVE to see someone in this group - who already has a Prusa Core One (I think there is AT LEAST One person in this forum with that printer) - get the INDX upgrade kit - turn their 3DP into a TC - then give us feedback!!!

I'll be upgrading my C1, but I'm going to wait until units have been shipping for ~6 months before ordering, provided an urgent use case doesn't arrive first.

The dragons look pretty good! 

As for the prime tower, how does the U1 slicer do them?  On my H2C they're basically hollow and just some ribs back and forth to get the nozzle primed, and then on layers with a few color changes it fills in and they interlock in case it's differing materials.

Kurt, 

Those dragons are the pre-sliced model that come with the printer. They are optimised for appearance and have much bigger and heavier prime towers than if you had downloaded the model and used Snapmaker’s slicer, probably because they were sliced back when both the hardware and software were in beta.

Even for the current slicer, with a much smaller prime tower, you can tweak the settings to make it even smaller with no ill effects, or even just turn it off if you don’t care about a few spots of discolouration on your print (say for a multi-material functional print). 

Just like the INDX, you only need to extrude enough to equalise the pressure in the nozzle. In this there is no difference between any of the tool changer options.

Alan,

I think where that argument falls down is that a Prusa printer is two/three times (or more) more expensive than a similar printer from another brand. Then the upgrade kit costs more again, and leaves the user with a compromised system because they are shackled to engineering decisions that were made years ago for now-obsolete designs because of this “upgrade” path. You end up with a printer that is slower, and has a smaller build volume than their competitors, and uses technology other manufacturers have moved on from years ago (like those horrible PINDA sensors Prusa kept from the MK1 to the MK3S just because of “upgradability”).

The INDX upgrade is a classic example - to upgrade the Core One+ to a four-tool tool changer is more expensive than just buying a four-tool tool changer from another brand, and you are going to end up with a slower, smaller printer. Plus, if you just buy a new printer, you can be up and printing in half an hour from taking it out of the box, because the printer was built and tested in a factory. If you buy a box of components, then the building and testing (and fault correction) is on you.

It is basically the same - the tower is a shell on the outside to make sure it doesn’t fall over, and just a short line of each colour on the inside.

My experience since 2014 is that every printer I've purchased turns to paperweight in a few years except the Prusa and Voron. Reasons vary. Both Prusa and Voron are not the cheapest solution, but they tend to get upgraded and supported, each in their own way. Whether that is worth it for the owner depends on the situation.

I will probably do a Core One INDX at some point. Haven't quite decided. The XL gets the job done.

Luke - thanks again for your Feedback!!!!!

Yeah - I know the pre-sliced Dragon uses more filament in the purge tower - and the tower when you slice is COMPLETELY Different - like a curved almost "8" design to the tower. 

And, the idea of just killing off the Prime Tower - I REALLY NEED to experiment with that!!! 

I'm so new to the SnapMaker Slicer - and although it is a Fork of Orca (I believe) - and so is Elegoo (if I am Correct) - there are enough DIFFERENCE between Snap & Elegoo slicers that it's a tad frustrating and requires a learning curve! 

Meanwhile - I am TRYING to do some Experimental stuff today on the U1 - and, yeah - just a bit frustrating. Needless to say - I will surely keep folks posted on my progress - like my Toilet talk I posted a tad earlier... But - that's Not U1 stuff...
