Carbotec Taikata Sailing Club Regatta

Hi 

Adrian from Carbotec has asked me to pass on Taikata Sailing Club regatta info for Kings birthday weekend. Saturday May 31 and Sunday June 1st.

It is Titled - masters regatta but I have been informed it is open to any age of Farr 3.7 sailors. (they don't want optis/starlings attending)

Please reply if anyone is interested in the regatta so we can understand there could be a 3.7 fleet.

Hi folks,

I’d be happy to attend if we had a fleet of 3.7s ….say 5 or more 

I’ve never sailed at Taikura, assume it’s tidal hence the 9.30 start.

Happy to take advice on suitability for 3.7 sailing from anyone who knows the spot.

Mike,

If still living in Auckland I'd be there for sure; with bells on. 

Taikata and mouth of Henderson Creek, Bombing Range, West Harbour and the whole area from Kauri Point to Hobsonville is very tidal and it is often faster to sail on the edges out of the tide with the foils up real high. If you have any 'training' foils use those for sure. Not really that much different from sailing at Pt Chev or Waiuku or French Bay in my opinion as an upper harbour venue it is well worth going. Mostly the bottom is soft, albeit grinding paste. But I'm sure they have it aligned with tides so it is only an issue if you go off piste.

Like you Mike, I'd go if there was sufficient interest. It's where I learnt to sail. It is pretty tidal and, certainly in slower boats, the tide is so dominant I didn't really know what a wind shift was until I started sailing elsewhere. To be fair, I'm still not sure I know what a wind shift is!
