[Gene Buckle]

Is there some kind of magic trick to getting VICE to use the ZF? I've
tried every option I can find.

This is on Windows, but might work elsewhere.

Settings->Peripheral Settings
Choose "Drive 8" tab or whichever one you want.
Select "Use IEC Device" checkbox.
Select "Real IEC device" radio button
Hit OK.

LOAD"$",8

You'll see the drive run.

Note: only works with un-protected disks without speeder protocols. It
will not work at all if you try anything that requires downloading code
to the drive that changes the IEC protocol.

The ZoomFloppy opencbm dll probably needs to be 64-bit too. The next
binary release will have 64-bit builds of OpenCBM as well as 32-bit
(which was released in January).

Try downloading 32-bit VICE. It should work just as fast and also link
ok with this OpenCBM release.

Dunno. I tested with VICE 2.1 32-bit and it worked. Try 2.2 or if that
fails, 2.1.

Today I checked out WinVICE versions 2.2 to 2.4 in both x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit) versions.  I only used the Commodore 128 emulator (x128) and I found that only WinVICE x86 versions 2.2 and 2.4 support the "Real IEC device" as found in Settings>Peripheral Settings>Drive 8 (or 9, 10, 11).  WinVICE x86 version 2.3 and all versions of WinVICE x64 (64-bit) had no "Real IEC device" support.  So if you own a ZoomFloppy and would like to use your CBM disk drive in VICE,  stick to WinVICE 32-bit versions 2.2 and 2.4.  Any comments, corrections, or criticism welcomed.

I have seen some reports about 2.3 not supporting "Real IEC devices".

Which version of OpenCBM did you use? If you used the "official"
distribution by Jim, then these are 32 bit executables. I do not think
that WinVICE x64 tries to use the x86 library, thus, this is no
surprise.

If you want to test WinVICE x64, you should test it against OpenCBM x64.

I used the Windows version found over here http://www.root.org/~nate/c64/xum1541/ .  The ZoomFloppy Manual v2.0 states to use this version.  I did have some problems installing the ZoomFloppy drivers in a Windows 8 64-bit computer and you can read about the solution at post 31 over at this forum http://www.commodore128.org/index.php?topic=4462.msg23178;topicseen#new .

Is there a 64-bit version of OpenCBM that works with VICE and ZoomFloppy?

Hello TracKer and Carsten.

There is already a signed ZoomFloppy driver available in the official OpenCBM repository (see "windrv" directory). No need to circumvent Windows "Driver Signature Enforcement".

Do you want to test the drivers from the git
(http://sourceforge.net/p/opencbm/code/ci/master/tree/windrv/)? These
should be signed and work out-of-the-box. However, I do not have a
machine to test it.

If it works, the easiest solution might be for Nate to update the binary
package - and, for me, to release a v0.5.0.

I do not know if it works with x64 VICE, but the ZoomFloppy should work

I've wanted to get v0.5.0 out for a while so I can stop maintaining my own package. You can include the pdf docs or whatever along with OpenCBM, and then I can mark all my packages as legacy and point people at OpenCBM directly.

This is the official source repository of OpenCMB.

You get to a screen where you get an instruction how to checkout the
repo ("git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/opencbm/code opencbm-code" if
you have git installed), or you can go to windrv/ and download
everything there, preserving the directory structure.

In order to make it simpler, I already did that and put it up into a ZIP
file. You can find it at:

I just checked in the documentation updates I have until now. You see,
there is still much to do.

Thanks, I was only looking at the binary packages.

Drivers seem to be installed perfectly now, without having to disable Win8's enforced driver signing.
there are some other Issues, which Spiro and I are taking on private email. No need to clutter up the list
with unrelevant info.

Since VICE uses stock DOS protocols when using ZF, it should work fine.
