Hi people,

I am trying to import xonsh to FreeBSD but the latest version creates files that are not needed if amalgamate is not installed.

Is amalgamate a mandatory dependency of xonsh or is it optional?

With kind regards,
Roberto Fernandez Cueto

Hello Roberto,

Sorry for the delay in responding.  Do you have a specific traceback that you can post.  Also, for reporting issues, it is probably best to used our issue tracker for a more timely response: https://github.com/xonsh/xonsh/issues

Amalgamate is distributed along with xonsh and is an install-only dependency.

Be Well
Anthony

Hi, you can follow the thread opened in the FreeBSD's bugzilla: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=220596

As it is a dependency, I think it would be appropriate to import also amalgamate as a build dependency.

Thanks for your time, Anthony

Hi Roberto,

You are of course welcome to do what you want, but as you will see amalgamate (which I mostly wrote) is distributed with the xonsh source code.  The setup.py in xonsh will use the local amalgamate.  I recommend that you don't depend on the amalgamate project directly. I hope this helps!

Be Well
Anthony
