FRIDAY, 3/18 PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE BY 6 PM EST SUNDAY. Get a
cup of coffee. It's long.
NOTE FROM ME: I went to
Roundup in Tampa last night and we danced a bunch. Maurice taught his and
Tom Clemons' new dance, STONE COLD. It's a 72-count Viennese Waltz and I
really like it. Take a look. The video is a little dark but you can
see it. I'll ask him to post a lighter one when there is one. The
sheet will be out soon. If you didn't know, Maurice has been and still is
teaching couples dancing and at the Roundup in Tampa, and you will be able to
feel when you dance this dance what I have always been nagging new
choreographers about, to learn the basic couples moves to improve your
choreography skills. That is why some choreographers can do winning dances
over and over again and why you can remember some dances for years. It's
not an accident or because they are a "name." It's because they know what
they are doing and know what dances go to which music. That's
my nag for the day -- except REMEMEB ER TO VOTE! LOL

News From Orlando, FL USA
FROM: Sandy Albano
We are now only weeks away from our 2016 Dance Xperience events.
We have a new no-frills format in 2016 from our previous EXPERIENCE events so we
have changed the name of our new events just a little. But we still wanted
you to know it was us! The new events will be named Dance Xperience (name
of city) and will be on back-to-back weekends in two different cities featuring
the same set of choreographers.
Our first events will be the Dance Xperience Orlando set for April
15-17, 2016 in Florida. The next weekend we will be at the Dance Xperience
Portland on April 22-24, 2016 in Oregon. These will be ballroom-based
events and they will be limited to the first 150 people who sign up.
Our guest choreographers in April in both cities will be Neville
Fitzgerald, Julie Harris, and Joey Warren. Due to the recent fire at her
home, Debbie Rushton has had to cancel her appearance. We are pleased to
have Rachael McEnaney-White to fill in for our Orlando weekend and Rhoda Lai to
fill in for our Portland weekend. We appreciate both of the ladies joining
us on such short notice. Of course, our Awesome DJ, Big Dave and his wife
Pauline will also be on hand for all of these events.
There is
additional event information, suggestions for hotels plus flyers and
registration forms on our website.
We would love to have you join us and many of your other dance friends
in one of these great cities!! We have already received a number of
registrations for both events and they are filling up quickly. Please
don’t wait if you plan to come. We don’t want you to be disappointed!

DJ
Since the response was so great at the March 1st deadline, we sold out of
outside and 4B cabins that Carnival has graciously given us more rooms and time
to lock in at the current rate.
2 WEEKS left to go before the deadline to March 31st. It tax refund time,
so what better use of that refund than on your summer vacation on a late summer
cruise with the "5 Guys And A DJ" linedance cruise. Also, with the additional
rooms now added, Anthony told us calls are coming in quickly now, so lock in
your choice room. This cruise will feature Guyton Mundy in his last dance cruise
before his retirement in 2017. This is a 6 day cruise in the Exotic Eastern
Caribbean on the Carnival Conquest out of Port Ft. Lauderdale August 28 thru
Sept 3 in 2016.
The other instructors are Will Craig, John Dembiec, Patrick Fleming and
Trevor Thornton with our DJ being JP Potter.
We're actively putting our schedule for workshops and cruise activities
right now. Those will be posted as soon it's finalized. But we do have some
giveaways to announce. Pass to to Swing Fling, Big D Bash, FloriDance and
Guyton's entire video library. There will be more to come.
Ports of Call are Carnivals private island of Half Moon, Amber Cove -
Dominican Republic, and Grand Turk. 2 days at sea.
I haven't been told what rooms are still left, but I do know that Anthony
has been getting calls for these newly added rooms. We were able to lock in room
rates at a great price, which as follows:
Interior 4B $586.64
Interior 4C $596.64
Interior 4D $606.64
Outside $666.64
Balcony Sold out, ask for current pricing
Suites are available by request.
Please keep this in mind, you can still book after the deadline, but it's
looking like it will be a minimum of $120 increase of the above listed prices.
If you book outside of Anthony, their will be a $100 walk up fee to join the
group.
Remember, first come, first serve on rooms.
These are based off double occupancy, taxes and port fees included.
Excluded are gratuities, alcohol, excursions, etc. Discounts may be available
for frequent Carnival travelers and senior discounts. Just ask when booking.
3&4 people rates are also available.
A deposit of $250 is needed to secure the room with full payment by June
14th, 2016. We would like to have deposits in by March 1st, 2016 to secure the
current room rate. Obviously the sooner you book, the better chance of room
selection. If we don't sell out these room by March 1st, we can't guarantee
these rates. Full refunds are granted until 90 days before the cruise.
If you need to find a roommate, we will do everything we can to accommodate
you.
Buses will be provided if enough requests are received for Tampa and/or
Orlando. Minimum of 40 people.
Any questions regarding the cruise, please direct them to Anthony, our
booking agent. He has an answer for every question you have.
Please contact Anthony Ferrara-Swaithes at Cedar Lane Travel for booking
and questions and ask for The "5 Guys And A DJ" cruise.
I can't stress this enough, but you MUST MUST MUST book with Anthony. If
you book directly with the cruise, you WILL NOT be able to join in the line
dance festivities. We will not have you on our attendance sheet. So please book
with Anthony.
You may also contact me with any questions you may have.
Let's send Guyton out with a bang!

Subject: NTA Dance Tip
– Turn Technique - CBM Preps (and Finishes) for Better
Balance
From: Debra Cleckler – NTA Dance Committee – de...@cleckler.com
For good balance, control and appearance, all turns and spins should start
(“Prep”) in CBM (Contra Body Motion/Movement). CBM is the action of taking
the opposite hip and shoulder toward the working/weighted foot. Ending the
turn in a CBM position (“Finish”) also provides better balance when coming out
of a spin or turn. The proper foot positions for “preps and finishes” are
the balance foot positions which are 3rd’s and 5th’s and their extended (or
slightly open) versions. These foot positions provide a turned out base
which provides better balance during turning.
Using CBM in preps for both Inside and Outside turns and spins is
crucial. Inside turns and spins (turning to the inside of the legs) use a
forward CBM, whereas Outside turns and spins use what we call a backward
CBM. (see description of “Outside Turn CBM Preps” below)
Inside Turn CBM Preps: When stepping forward onto the right foot
to do an inside turn (like a pivot turn/step turn, etc.), the center (core area)
rotates slightly to the right, bringing the left shoulder and hip forward,
toward the right foot. This causes a stretching (twisting) of the
abdominal muscles which builds torque (energy) to unwind or turn. Think
“twist-torque-turn”. It also provides a nice “prepped” look for the
turn.
Outside Turn CBM Preps: When stepping forward onto the right foot to
do an outside turn or spin (toward the outside of the legs) (as in a forward 5th
position traveling pivot), the center rotates slightly to the left to build
torque in a backward CBM. Your right foot is forward and your left hip and
shoulder are slightly back creating backward CBM for outside turning.
Ending in a CBM position after a turn or spin also gives a nice “finished”
look to turns and spins as well as providing a more balanced completion of the
turn.
NOTE: Keep body parts stacked with proper body alignment and think
more “down” (soft knees) than “up” (on tippy toes) when turning or
spinning. Keep the head up, shoulders down, arms up, rounded and forward
for better balance during turns and spins. Don’t forget to
spot!

SUBJECT: WINDOWS 10 PROBLEMS
FROM:
GINNY
NOTE FROM ME: I haven't received any responses yet. We much
have someone on this list that can educate people so please write me so I can
post it in the newsletter for everyone to read. Thanks.
Hi Carol-Did u change ur mind about putting an article in the newspaper
about the problems windows 10 is causing? I've now talked to several
people who are also having the same problems and read articles concerning
the situation. It seems we must download different versions of Real
Times/Real Player in order to have windows recognize it. I believe that is
only one of the changes we must now make.
I would like to know how
other instructors are handling this.
(please do not put this in the
newspaper-just your version)
Thank you so
much

Subject: Dance Reviews
From: janis....@googlemail.com MIRROR
MIRROR – Robbie McGowan-Hickie
48 count, 2 wall Easy Intermediate dance – 2
restarts
Music: Mirror Mirror by (ft.
Elena)
Love it, dance flows with the music and is a pleasure to dance as are
all Robbie’s dances. Great choice of music too. Mirror mirror on the
wall, no maybe won’t go there! Last section feels a bit rushed but that
may be my age, should have done a slower step there Robbie methinks!
Or I will try and move a bit quicker. On the way to the No. 1 spot.
FIRST COMES THE NIGHT – Sandra Speck
32 count, 4 wall Improver line
dance – 2 tags which flow quite nicely with the music
Music: First
Comes The Night by Chris Isaak
What a lovely little dance this is with the
dulcet tones of Mr Isaak. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think it will be
popular in class. One the bands should check out.
SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN – Alison Biggs & Peter Metelnick
64 count, 2
wall Improver line dance – tagless
Music: September In The Rain by Rod
Stewart
Love this one and one of those singalonga dances, not just a rock and
a shuffle, some different choreography to catch you out a little, especially
going from the end to the beginning. Practice, practice, practice!
THE BITE – Ria Vos
64 count, 4 wall Easy Intermediate dance –
tagless
Music: La Mordidita (feat. Yotuel) by Ricky Martin
Didn’t
like the music to start with then I saw it danced out and changed my mind.
Sometimes the dance together with the music fits a treat and this one is no
exception. Enjoying it now and wished I had done it sooner, must inflict
it on some more classes now.
ABOUT FEELINGS – Ria Vos
32 count, 4 wall Intermediate NC2 – 1
restart
Music: Mixed Drink About Feelings by Eric Church
Queen of
the Nightclubs, another super dance to enjoy. Quite slow in places and you
need to streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch the counts but glorious. Don’t like the
sweep ball step but a kick works well. Not me!
GERRY’S REEL – Maggie Gallagher
32 count, 4 wall improver dance – tag
free thank goodness!
Music: Gerry’s Reel
Oh boy, Maggie is trying to
recruit for her CELTICA team by sloooooooooooooowly getting us to
Riverdance! I checked this one out last week and thought nope, can’t do
that then thought oh well it would be fun trying to. I quite enjoyed it
even though the first 3 steps went AWOL! 1&2, 1&2, 1&2 I
kept saying but despite that my feet wanted to do 1&a2 as per BLARNEY
ROSES! Once you get the first 2 sections out of the way the rest is a
doddle but getting there is a journey. Maggie, you are safe, we won’t be
asking to join or maybe I should rephrase that and say you will not be looking
to us for recruits!
KISS MY LIPS – Diana Dawson
64 count, 4 wall intermediate
dance
Music: Kiss My Lips by The McClymonts
Kiss My …………
Oh no maybe not! Their music is always upbeat and infectious and I found
myself really enjoying this dance.
WON’T TELL A SOUL – Rachael McEnaney-White & Malene Jacobsen
32
count, 4 wall intermediate dance – tag free
Music: Won’t Tell A Soul –
Charlie Puth
Had do you pronounce his name? Is it Pooth? Or
Pugh? Or Pooh?
I learned this one last year when it came out and then
something else came along and I sidelined it. Now I have just seen it
danced out and the music and the dance just grabbed me. I went home and
put it on a CD and it’s been played over and over with me singing along!
What a fantastic piece of music and Charlie Puth reminds me of The Platters from
my youth (ish!). Remember going to see them several times and just loved
them. Think it was a couple of the original members in the band and the
rest were sound-alikes but the one with the deep voice was there, Herb Reed I
think his name was. Kept expecting Charlie to do that uh-oh into the next
verse and he nearly did. Sssshhh!
A LITTLE LOVE TRIP – Julie Lockton and Vikki Morris
32 count, 4 wall
Improver dance – tagless
Music: Love Trip by Jerry Gilgore
One of
those countless fab country songs that the bands will pick up on and it just
flows along nicely. Have been teaching this one to most classes, whether
improver or intermediate.
SLAMMING DOORS – Rob Fowler
48 count, 4 wall Intermediate Waltz – tag
free
Music: Slamming Doors by Ben Haenow
Another lovely waltz from
Mr Fowler, quite tricky in places although when in doubt just waltz. The
timing caught a few people and took a few goes to not rush that step quarter at
the beginning. I love the music, love Ben Haenow and I love
waltzing.
MAKING HISTORY – Dee Musk, Craig Bennett and Simon Ward
32 count, 2 wall
Easy Intermediate dance – 2 restarts on back wall in the same place
Music: History by One Direction
Wasn’t sure on the music to start with but I now love it once I had put the
choreography to the music. Weird starting 24 counts after the vocals but
it works. Not sure on the walking with hitches as you end up with another
entry to the Ministry of Silly Walks or more like creeping. Add to that,
the blowing on the holds before the restart and we had quite fun learning
it. Craig’s last dance (surely not, bet he creeps back in again when he is
old) before he retires from our world of dance but I hope that he will be drawn
back into it and produce more great dances sometime in the future! He will
sure be missed.
BLACKPOOL BY THE SEA – Gaye Teather
32 count, 4 wall Improver dance –
tag free
Music: Blackpool By The Sea by Dave Sheriff
LDF dance for
the Crystal Boot Awards this year. Fun little dance with infectious music
as you would expect from Dave Sheriff. Charleston dance to enjoy,
not many like hand movements but looking to the left and right is
acceptable. One would ask do you only look when Dave says so? One of
my dancers didn’t look and when I enquired as to why, she said oh I thought you
were shading your eyes from the sun….. When I’m cleaning windows I sing as
we walk round!
STOP & DRINK – Robbie McGowan-Hickie
64 count, 4 wall
Intermediate dance – tag free although it has an ending…
Music: Stop
& Drink by George Strait
Another fab country song and dance from
RMH. Flows well as usual and I really enjoyed dancing it. Like the
Smokey Places section.
AINT MISBEHAVIN’ – Guyton Mundy, Jo Thompson-Symanski and Amy Glass
48
count, 4 wall Intermediate line dance – tag free
Music: Misbehaving by
Pentomix
Love this funky dance. Timing is a little tricky and its bad
for the hips sort of dance but you can fudge it and do your own thing and its
great. Lots of room for variation on the last pop and triple steps and
some new moves for the Ministry of Silly Walks. However, no one can do it
quite like Guyton, maybe we all should wear a woolly hat – I’m sure there is a
cooler word for woolly hat but it escapes me at the moment. The double
hitch catches a few out but it’s not that fast so you have time to try!
Like the three options for the touches back, think I prefer the &1 &2
&3 &4 one but quite like the barracuda.
THOSE RUSSIANS – Niels Poulsen
64 count, 2 wall Easy Intermediate dance
– oodles and oodles of tags and restarts and bridges
Music: Rasputin by
Boney M
Well! Always did like Boney M, especially this track so pleased
to see a dance to it. A bit too many starts and tags and hand movements
for my liking but I will persevere and get it right. Maybe!
SMOKEY PLACES – Michelle Perron
32 count, 4 wall beginner/intermediate
dance
Music: Smokey Places by Ronnie McDowell
Did this one as some
had never done it before. Still love the music and as usual with a classic
dance, the script bears no resemblance as to how I perceived the dance to
be! Think they evolve like the apes! Actually, wasn’t the singer in
Planet Of The Apes?!
PIZZIRICCO – Dynamite Dot
32 count, 4 wall Easy Intermediate dance – tag
free
Music: Pizziricco by The Mavericks
Love their sound and an old
gem from Dot which has always been one of my favourites so happy to recap
it. Another example too of how dances evolve – who added the double clap
and the scuff after the triple half? On checking the script, no sign of
them! The thing is that I remember being taught that way years ago so
instructors must just add their own bits as they feel like rather than go
vanilla. Also script says to turn your head when you walk and click but
which way?
Thanks
Janis
