Due to a broken laptop and crooked web host (at least that is MY
opinion now), I have to rebuild two of my online shops (and two of my
blogs) from scratch. :( I was using Zen Cart for my online shops, but
am considering using a WordPress shopping cart plugin since I already
use WordPress for my blogs. Which of the following WordPress shopping
cart plugins would you recommend (feel free to recommend another one)?:

MarketPress Lite - http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/e-commerce-lite
TheCartPress - http://thecartpress.com/
WooCommerce - http://www.woothemes.com/woocommerce/
WP e-Commerce - http://getshopped.org/

Thanks in advance!,
Deanna M.

Hi Deanna,

I've been looking at Cart66 ( wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cart66-lite/) for an upcoming project, though I've not tried it out myself. I wonder if anyone else here has used it. I like that it supports Stripe for payments.

Cheers,

I was walking down my stairs one day with my open laptop balanced on one hand and a cup of coffee in the other and had a visual of the laptop slipping off my hand and bouncing down the stairs to split in two on impact with the floor at the bottom.

Later that day I bit the bullet and got a svn account at http://beanstalkapp.com/ for $15 a month. Ideally you use that with subversion or git to keep versions of your projects, but it's also a good, safe, off-site way of protecting yourself from mishaps. It recently saved my butt when my isp Hostgator somehow deleted one of my sites completely (strange... they have no record that anyone deleted anything... just glad I have that backup!) It's better than Dropbox because it saves versions, and it makes it easy to click 'commit' at the end of each work day, so it's constantly up to date.

It's my favorite $15 bill to pay each month. As soon as I uploaded my code I could actually feel my blood pressure dropping.

Cheers

Woo Commerce has served me well in the past. That'd be my vote.

I built Jolly-lolly.com with WP e-commerce. Comes with paypal and google checkout. A new gateway isn't terribly difficult to create.

Sorry to hear that.

Check to see if some or all of the data is available at
<http://archive.org>. I've resurrected several sites in similar
situations over the years using it, and once helped a client out of a
legal jam when their customer claimed in court that the website *used*
to say xxx but was recently changed to yyy.

Good luck!

I would recommend MarketPress.  They have added some good features lately, calculated shipping etc.  The lite version isn't as versatile as the full fledged pay version but I would consider your free cart options out there first.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations and votes! I ended up
choosing Ecwid - http://www.ecwid.com, which was recommended by
someone on another group. I really like it so far and would recommend
anyone looking for a shopping cart plugin to check it out. ;)

Thanks again!,

Since we're on the topic... which of these shopping cart plugins will also handle creating shipping labels? I have a client who is using zen cart for just a couple of products, and would like a new option that can be integrated into WordPress. I don't know which would be her best option, so further recommendations would be great!

Bobbie, marketpress looks interesting but they just say the shipping label option is an API, and don't describe how it works. And it's $39/month payable in advance to even try it out, which is a bit pricey for what my client needs.

Any other ideas?

There is a free MarketPress at Wordpress Plugin Repository. That article also hinted that the labels could be added to the email template.

You're not going to get some of the features as you would for the paid, though I think there's still plenty of the good ones.
