Well if you can't beat them... join them! Following a number of night shots appearing on this group recently, here is one of my efforts. ARRIVA Buses Wales DAF DB250 / Alexander 4091 - S261 JUA stands in Mostyn Street, Llandudno, picking up passengers for a run on route 12 to Rhyl Bus Station on a cold, dark November evening.

A quick lighten in Photoshop transforms it in my view into a very nice
image indeed!

Hi David

Llandudno town centre has very wide streets meaning the streetlights
do not illuminate as much as a narrower street so the original is more
of a reflection of the actual lighting conditions. The way you have
transformed it is almost like using the flash (without actually using
the flash) would you say? Thank you for that suggestion as it shows
what is possible, even on a darker street.

Kind Regards
Steve

Yes. It's always a matter for preference what a night photograph
should look like. There's no right answer. You can get very nice
photographs using floodlights and the like - they make for stunning
images but are not a reflection of reality. So you have to be the
happy the photograph is what YOU want and the reality is that it can
be quite dark.

It's not like flash (except possibly a much bigger flash) as flash
tends to deaden everything and wash out the foreground leaving the
background in darkness.

I was very surprised how much I could lighten the photograph without
it complaining! There's usually a downside when you lighten it that
much but it wasn't very apparent.

The good thing about discussing photographs is, even though there are
differences of opinion, everybody gets something out of it and that
makes for better photographs in the future. It's not important who
takes them.
