As described here
(https://vi.stackexchange.com/questions/16015/where-are-the-french-help-files) I
am searching for the translated help files. In essence, they're not where they should
be.

Tony Mechelynck reported them missing at vim_use here
(https://groups.google.com/d/msg/vim_use/jTR6TnW-O20/2PkjTg1lAwAJ)

If anyone knows where to find them, I've searched far and wide without success
and would greatly appreciate having them.

(Will gladly throw them on GitHub to make them easier to find later.)

Hi, I'm the guy behind dindinx.net and I used to managed this
traduction. Years ago (over a decade I guess, it was pre vim-7 time), I
transferted all the files to traduc.org and freenode.net/#vim-fr because
I hadn't any time left to care about this.

I've find a (probably very outdated) archive of this and put it there:
http://dindinx.net/files/stuff/vim.tar.gz

I still don't have time to handle all this but I will gadly help to
understand the content of this file if needed.

I'm really no big fan of github and I would prefer an open solution,
but of course, since I don't really volonteer to work on that, you are
free to do as you want.

Regards,

DindinX

I took over translations of Vim in French about 10 years ago,
but I only maintain:
- the Vim messages: src/po/fr.po
- the tutorial: runtime/tutor/tutor.fr.utf-8
- the man pages: runtime/doc/*-fr.UTF-8.1
- the gvim menu: runtime/lang/menu_fr_fr.latin1.vim

Translating help pages would be too much work (at least for me).
Help pages also keep changing, so translations are bound
to be out of date quickly if not actively maintained.

Regards
Dominique

The archive is a decent starting point for an updated version, so thanks for
finding that. However, I was unable to find anything on either the traduc site
or on freenode (could that just be me?).

Re: GitHub, I thought of hosting files there because it facilitates other people
collaborating on a translation but also a sort of "public archive" that
shouldn't disappear in the near future. That is, I consider it to be fairly
"open."
