Hi Vusumzi,

Yes.

There are a number of options for WAN depending on the version of SECN and the SECN device you are using. If the device has a USB port (e.g. MP02), you can select WAN USB and plug in a 3G USB cellular modem. If you already have a local router with Internet access, you can select WAN ethernet and plug the device's ethernet port into one of the LAN ports on your router.

Cheers,

Keith

Hi Vusumzi

For the Nanostation M2, select 'Ethernet' for the WAN port.

This will allow you to connect the secondary Ethernet connector to your local LAN so that the NS M2 and devices that connect to it can have Internet access via your LAN.

You will probably need to enable the DHCP server on the NS M2 so that devices connecting to it via wifi can get an IP address assigned automatically.

Regards
Terry

That should be all.

You need to reboot for the changes to take effect.

Login and run ifconfig command and post the output here so we can see what is happening.

Hi Vusumzi

That looks OK, but there is no IP address shown for eth1 which should be the WAN port.

Was the port connected to a LAN router or similar that would have given it an IP address with DHCP?
(From memory this Ethernet port is labelled 'Secondary' on the NS M2 device)

Could you send the /etc/config/network file please?

You can get it in the terminal with:
    #  cat /etc/config/network.

Also could you run
    #  brctl show
and post the output here.

That all looks fine.

If you connect the secondary Ethernet port to an upstream router it should get an IP address and allow access to the internet through the upstream router.

Is that working?

You need to access the device from the primary connector, because that is the LAN port.

The secondary connector is set up as a WAN port and is used to connect to an upstream router.

Do you have a LAN / router / modem with access to the Internet?
If so, what type of device is it ie brand/type number?

When you select WAN Port setting of 'Ethernet' in the SECN WAN configuration page, the NS M2 device acts as a router ie it has a "LAN" side and a "WAN" side.

There are two Ethernet connectors on the NS M2 device.

The primary Ethernet connector is called eth0, and it and the wifi interface, called wlan0, are bridged together on the LAN side.

The secondary Ethernet connector is called eth1 and it is on the WAN side.

Client devices can connect to the NS M2 device on the LAN side either with WiFi or Ethernet cable to the primary connector.

The secondary connector, on the WAN side, needs to be connected to some other device such as a modem/router that is connected to the Internet.

When you do this, the NS  device will pass the internet connection on to the client devices that are connected to it.

Perhaps it might be worthwhile for you to draw and post a diagram of your network showing all the devices, so that we can better understand what you have and what you are trying to achieve.

Hi Vusumzi

As I understand from your email, you can connect your laptop to the NS2 and access the SECN web interface, but you can not access  the Internet.

Is that correct?

Is the NS2 connected to any other network equipment, such as a router or modem?
